Camp with caution in NWPA SWNY

I'm set up out in the middle of the woods at Kinzua Dam near Warren, PA. I was out walking last night down the forest road that I'm boondocking on when this car pulls up beside me. It was a state trooper in a civilian car. We chatted for a bit, he wanted to know what I was doing...I said picking up garbage duh...the bags didn't give it away. (Ok I didn't say it like that, but it was what I was thinking) They've been looking for this guy (an escaped convict) for months and he's supposedly in the area and last night he shot 2 more police officers. He has previoulsy already shot one officer. Last week the guy robbed a local gun store of about $4500 in guns and ammo. The trooper said to have a nice weekend, but take caution because the guy was known to be in the area (they found one of the cars he stole in Warren County). So anyone that is coming this way this weekend not familiar with the story, just be careful. Here's a link to the story from last night. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14614953/from/RS.2/

This makes me wish that I brought the gun.

If it were me instead of posting I would be hooking up my trailer and out of there. Please be careful.

Good Luck Jim

jrk247, Kinzua is one of my favorite camping spots! When I used to have a boat, we went to the boat access only camping areas, north of the marina. Always had a blast up there.

Did they ever get water and electric hookups at Dew Drop and Kiasutha? Have not been back since 2003.

Not scared yet!

I'm not packing up to head home yet...even though the prospects of Ernesto drenching me look high. It's 66 miles one way, I'll take my chances.

Dew Drop and Kiasutha do not have electric or water hookups as far as I'm aware. The only one that did was Red Bridge, which was closed this year. I don't stay at the campgrounds, I pick a spot on the forest roads where the nearest neighbor is a mile or more away!
