Calling all Austin, TX Airstreamers... I have a question

To those of you in the greater Austin area - can you tell me of a good place in the area to get it weighed and inspected? Currently it's sitting in covered storage in Manor, so if there is any place within 20 miles or so of there, that'd be good - otherwise I'll take what I can get.

Weighing: go to the 221 truck stop on I-35 at Buda (just north of the Airstream dealer). It is best to weigh it as described in one of my recent posts so that you have all the pertinent numbers for truck and trailer. They won't let you unhitch on their scales, so weigh truck with trailer attached, then weigh truck alone. The difference is the trailer weight.

Inspection? I frankly don't know anyone around here who gets their trailer inspected. I have bought 2 from the local dealer and there are no inspection stickers on either. I do understand that to initially license a trailer from out of state, you may need to have an inspection.

Yessir - that's the case at hand. Bought it in Oklahoma.

Thanks for the info!

Sunny Manchaca here -

There is a place (service shop) in Manchaca that does it - easy in / out

Last year I found a list on the web TXDOT or somewhere - that listed all
approved inspection locations, addresses, etc and the type of vehicles that they inspect.

There are not a huge number of places that inspect trailers.

My 99 Safari has never been inspected - but as I read it - trailers over 4500 lbs empty require an annual inspection. Also have heard that it is usually just a token inspection - a walk - around and test the lights.
