Buried in an Airstream?
Until last week, I hadn't had a good night's sleep since Christmas Eve.
Why?
A severe cold snap hit, and then I got the flu. It would be too difficult to make those pilgrimages to the gas station to refill the FaN's propane tanks. The electric heater just couldn't keep up.
So, I had to move back into a house. It felt strange. The enormity of space procured feelings of unease and vulnerability. Sleep did not come easy.
The cold snap and illness finally passed; I moved back into my driveway "bedroom." Safe. Secure. Comfy.
As I was reacquainting myself with this bliss, I had an idea. I would like to be buried in the FaN.
I suppose there are regulations prohibiting this, but it would be my ideal entombment.
Is it selfish, i.e. a waste of land, a still-good trailer, and the cost would be enormous (assuming this could actually become a reality?)
Perhaps.
It was just a thought, and I felt a need to share.

Why not?
It would require a larger than average hole, tho, which might be a problem in your average cemetery.
Perhaps cremation, ashes then settled into a favorite spot in the FaN, the whole then lowered into the ground on a friend's land, or some such place?
Cremation may move you out of any requirements that a body be in a cemetery and buried only under certain conditions.....

Burial at sea might be a possibility. Possibly an Airstream sunk at the right spot might provide a foundation for the growth of a new reef with attendant benefits for fish, etc., with a little fish food thrown in as a bonus?

Glad that you're feeling better fan. Your too young to be thinking about stuff like this. Hopefully, your Airstream will be worn out, by the time you expire. No doubt, there's a cloud with your name on it.

Why not, people have been buried in much stranger caskets. Recently saw on Facebook where a Airstream fan died and their Airstream was partially dismantled to make a casket from the skin.

One story from the early days of the automobile. A proud owner of a ModelT wanted to be buried in it
His reason?
Because I've never been in a hole that my flivver couldn't get me out of!

I have often thought about being buried with my trailer or my car or my motorcycle, but will mostly donate my body to science.

I'll be cremated and my ashes placed in 10 to 20 smaller bags with a note attached to each indicating the location of one of my favorite hiking spots. Before my daughter can receive the inheritance she has to hike to each spot and spread my ashes. Hope she stays in shape there will be a few 20 milers.

Hi Maggie,
Great idea. And, who has to know?

Hi McDave, another good idea. They turn boats and airplanes into reefs.
Although, I am always on corrosion patrol; the salt water might make me turn over in my grave/ trailer.

Hi Kelvin, that is a good idea too. It is a true homage to the Airstreamer's wandering soul.

I was in a cemetery, don't remember where, and found a gravesite that I'll never forget. Guy was buried in his Mercedes. His headstone was a life size carving of the car in granite. Guess he didn't want ANYONE else driving his car!

I have donated my body to science but my ashes will be returned to my family.
I intend to make my urn in the shape of an Airstream Trailer...don't know what the family will do with it since I want to be scattered on Lake Superior and sail the world from there!

I'm signed up to be an organ donor - should any of them be of any use. Otherwise Jo Ann can do whatever she wants with what's left of me. I won't care.
We do own a couple of cemetery lots, but who knows if either one of us will be anywhere near there at that time.
