Brake Controller Advice
Looking for advice on a brake controller for our 2017 land cruiser.
Few questions:
1. Is there a high quality brake controller that's not huge -- that I can plug/unplug easily? This is our family truck and don't necessarily want to screw holes in this beautiful truck
2. What are some of the ways you guys install these things said they're not intrusive? Does anybody have a good set up for putting them when needed and removing them when not in use?
3. Does anybody use a factory Toyota Brake controller? If so, what are your thoughts
Thanks all!!!

Here is what I did for our TV. I know it's not a LC, but hopefully it will give you ideas for your LC.

Most new era brake controllers are compact in size and non-intrusive. My Tekonsha is setup with a quick disconnect which makes it easy to remove when not in use, but I never take it out.

Same concern with mounting and an additional concern with wiring. Went with the Tenkosha Prodegy RF unit. It has worked well for us. Pat

I like the factory brake controllers because the mounting position is usually more convenient for use, and the settings are displayed on your dashboard, we have had two trucks with them. That's the way to go for convenience.
We installed a Prodigy aftermarket controller on an earlier Tundra, it was factory wired to a plug and Prodigy had an optional wiring harness that plugged right into it. Less expensive way to go.

I used a P3 to plug into the factory harness. (Requires a wiring adaptor that is commonally available) Used a bolt hole on the underside of the instrument panel that was already in use to mount it while towing. non-towing it is removed.

Tekonsa makes a wireless controller that actually mounts on the trailer tongue and uses a non wired remote in the cab. I went on a caravan with a lady that had one of these and it worked fine. Nothing to mount in the TV at all. Been thinking about getting one because where my present controller is mounted is in the way when my wife drives and is hard to get to to use manually or to adjust.

The prodigy is excellent and will be plug and play with the right toyota cable from ETrailer. BUT you do need to mount it well; part of the way it works is detecting your vehicle slowing down and if the unit slides around it won't be able to work properly.

My prodigy is now in the way as the new Tacoma has an airbag on the right below the steering wheel, so the controller had to be mounted to the left. When you get into the cab my knee hits the controller. Wireless sounds like a dream. Wish i kept my old Taco.

Not pulling an AS yet, but I use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 controller for a stock trailer hauling a couple cows with my Tacoma. Works great. The Prodigy RF sounds like a great choice if you want to avoid drilling/mounting and don't want it in the TV all the time.

eliset123,
I installed a Tekonsha P3 into my 2017 Tacoma by modifying the cubby just to the left of the steering wheel (it required a .4"X 1.1" slot in the back of the cubby to feed the pigtale thru) It is a slight interference fit, but I am confident it is not moving and it does not get in the way. I did remove the rubber pad that was inside the cubby and only pressed it in where the manual brake lever still operates freely.
