Awning Advice - 1974 Tradewind

Need some advice for a new awning on my 74 Tradewind. My awning was in pieces and missing roller and fabric when I bought it. Who ever insalled it did a bad job many years ago. I have been looking at the old school style awning from Vintage trailer supply. No rollers or arms to break but more work to set up.Not as convenient. It will however make my Tradewind look more retro. Is this a good choice?

For a 74,I would probably go with an A&E,or ZipDee,a 60`s would be a different matter.Dave

If you can get one long enough it might be worth it if the arms are bad and the roller missing.
I believe these are marketed for canned ham type trailers. Stuffing 18 feet of awning in and out of the rail might be tough. I had one of these types on a 13' Scotty Sportsman. Wasn't too hard to set up and looked good once the fabric was in the rail.
Too bad you don't have the roller. I had an period awning made up for my Globetrotter at a place that made boat awnings and cushions for $400.

You'll see mostly roll out awnings on 70's and newer rigs but I've see old school pole awnings on 70's era rigs and they look fine to me. ALANSD has one on his 31' Sovereign.

Personally I prefer the roll-outs, not because they look better but because they fit my "Lazy Camper Guy" motif. Either type will look good IMHO.

Phone SGI and see if they have any RV write-off's that you could salvage a roll-up style awning from. Also, some RV dealers keep used in stock when people upgrade. Check around.

My rope and pole awning is on order right now from Vintage Trailer Supply and should be here within the next couple of weeks. My '69 Tradewind is the same body style as your '74. As soon as it arrives, I'll get it set up and post some photos so you can see how it looks with the vintage style awning.

I have just completed restoring/renovating/updating a 65 22' Safari. I choose to install Zip Dee Awning all the way around and it looks fantastic. The awnings are a dream to use and are very easy to install. Zip Dee offers wonderful help. Zip Dee gets my vote......Tim
