Arkansas and retirement
Eighteen inches of snow still on the ground and warm weather is still a few months off. Anyone out there know of a nice area in Arkansas to live the ultimate retired life with an airstream that loves living with us. A place that is one can do a little fishing and would be a good base camp to launch Stream adventures.

Check out Mountain Home, AR. Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes are wonderful and great fishing on the White river. The area is well worth a visit.

Arkansas and retirement
I would highly recommend several areas across the northern part of Arkansas:
NW Arkansas/Beaver Lake area
North Central Arkansas: Mountain Home area... Near Bull Shoals Lake and Norfork Lake....
West of Little Rock is Lake Dardanelle. It's nice, too, but I LOVE the northern part of our state. Lots of places in southern Missouri, also.
Plenty of fantastic lakes around here with great fishing.... Anything from trout (some of the best trout fishing in the country along the White River), to bass, crappie, stripers.... Seems like I've heard of one of the previously mentioned northern lakes has species of fish that are usually thought of as more "northern".
That's my two cents. I'm sure others might know places that are just as nice.
They don't call this The Natural State for nuthin'!

I will second PaulNGina's advice. I've only been to that part of Arkansas. So nice there that we never have made it further.
Beaver Lake is a Corps of Engineer lake in the NW part of Arkansas. South of Joplin/Springfield MO, and east of Tulsa.
It is such a wonderful clean water lake. Not at all muddy. Lots of people do open water scuba there. Great water temperature to sit on one of those pool noodles in the water all day long and be "just right".
Only caveat would be that the lake straddles 2 counties. One of the counties is "dry". (No alcohol sales). So you might want to bring your provisions with you or else you may find yourself driving back to Missouri to shop.

I've been to Lake Dardanelle, specifically Old Post Road Campground, a Corps of Engineers campground on the lake. Spent a whole day just watching a pair of peregrine falcons putting on a private airshow for me
But I'm also partial to DeGray Lake, in the southwestern part of the state near Bismarck and Arkadelphia, and an easy drive from Hot Springs.

All great recommendations.
Lake Maumell State Park is a very nice spot too.

You'd be amazed how many people I know here that moved to NW Arkansas from up north somewhere, then over the course of a few years several family members and/or friends moved here.
It's a great place!

Arkansas Spot
I noticed that your handle is Airborne6 so assuming you may be retired military my recommendation would be the Heber Springs area for the following reasons. You will not be very far Jacksonville Air Force Base which might be very convenient for you.
The other considerations are that Heber has Greers Ferry Lake and the Little Red river. Both have trout fishing with the Little Red having year round trout. The lake is better in early spring or deep water in the other seasons. I've caught lots of crappie while fishing for bass in the spring and also Walleye.
A little north is Mountain View with the Ozark Folk Center and the White River trout fishery. They have entertainment at the Center (Folksy) and the courthouse square in late spring and summer is really a treat. Just visit the different bands and find one you like and join in or listen. On a good night there may be 15-20 groups. After a performance by the "St Louis Irish Arts School" they re congregated at the square and I counted 17 different musicians playin guitar, harp, penny whistle, cello, accordian boudran etc etc. We were there until 2-3 in the morning.
Small college football at Searcy and Harding College easy drive. Go further east for Jonesboro and Arkansas State University.
Heber has all the goods and services needed and Little Rock/North Little Rock is only about 45 min to an hour.
I 30 at LR/NLR will take you to Dallas about 5.5 hrs and to the coast in about 10 to 12 hours. Turn right on I 40 and go to California.
Memphis and the new Bass pro Pyramid will be about 2.5-- 3 hrs. (Haven't driven from there)
My State is blessed with a lot of good fishing and clean water.
If you like mosquitoes and warm water fishing. Drop in Macks Sporting goods just outside of Stuttgart for tips. (Home of outstanding Duck and goose hunting.)
There's more but this just an overview. I love my state. Thanks for the inquiry!!

Thank you all for your responses. I will have to spend some time investigating the different areas. It's great to hear the pros of Arkansas. We must come check it out.

When in Hot Springs, AR, check out Rod's Pizza Cellar. The GodFather is a whole lot of eating and sure is good. Patty Ann takes good care of the customers and runs a tight ship.

Airborne6, I thought I recognized Bayfield, WI......
We picked up our Avion in Hancock, MI in 2013..... I remember seeing signs for Bayfield as we were heading there.

Noted Mark. The older I get, the more Summer I need. At least more than two months. Bayfield is a beautiful place though.

Yes, I noticed how beautiful the area was as we drove through.
I sure wouldn't like the winters, though.

I have been to 43 countries, been around the world 2 1/2 times, and nothing comes close to Arkansas. Perth Australia is second. There are many things that you could become part of here. Come on down and kick the tires. Need help around Hot Springs, PM me.

TG Twinkie. We enjoy heat. I built a custom sauna to swelter in and shed the cold and frigid Winters here on Lake Superior. I've lived in many hot humid areas of the world. Hopefully it wouldn't be an issue.
