WOW !!

hey folks, thanks millions for the tips and advise, especially those who contacted me off forum. I have bought the Military RV'ers book (very good advise ) and I have researched all the tips I received here. It appears that the "membership" camping clubs are about the same price as on base RV sites (except for a couple locations, Keys, Washington DC, etc) One thing you mentioned as a problem could be viewed as an positive thing, (and I can't believe I'm about to say this cuz getting on-base in a car IS time comsuming since 9/11) But, where else can you park and camp in an RV where there is a large team of highly trained/well equiped Security Forces guarding the boundry? Here's a picture of my Airstream.

Once you have served with honor and distinction in any branch of the Armed Services of the United States, you have became a Brother of thousands of unnamed men and women who have shared the same experiences you have. It is a club of Honor. It is a club of Distinction. Kinda like a Airstreamer huh!

We just got back this weekend from an outing at Patrick AFB near Cocoa Beach. (Im retired Air Force) It has a nice facility and is easy to use in the summer months. Most of the Florida Fam Camps are nice but are mostly all full in the winter. MacDill in Tampa has a nice facility with lots of slots if you can handle the mosquitos in the summer. We try to stay in military facilities whenever we can. The price cant be beat and they have the best security in the country!

Retired from the USAF in '94 as an O4. Did 7 years enlisted starting in '71.

Have always taken advantage of base VOQs when traveling and will do the same with FamCamps now.

Oak Grove at Pensacola NAS is particularly nice. Keesler AFB is pretty good too. As mentioned, Wright-Pat's is nice also.

Pensacola is also my home town. I graduated from CHS in '69. We lived in Pleasant Grove, not far from Grand Lagoon (which also has a nice campground in the state park) and Gulf Beach. My Dad was an aircraft electrician at NAS Pensacola until he retired years ago. He sold our place after Mom died, and he lives with my brother in Biloxi now. I'd like to move back down there... IF I could have summers off to spend up on the Great Lakes.

I also grew up in Pensacola, the Brentwood area mostly. Was in the first class at Woodham High. We moved to Tallahassee after the school year 1966. My older sister just moved back to Florida after spending most of her adult life in and around the Seattle Washington area.

Lightbulb Interesting

seems like alot of people who own airstreams are from around the Pensacola area. Living in Tacoma Washington is not at all tough for me, before I got here, all I heard is that it only rains every other day! NOT TRUE! It only rains ONCE a year here. It starts in Sept, and lets up sometime around the middle of Jun. Pensacola is a neat little town, and I will definitely stop in there, if for no other reason than to visit the Family (and for a home cooked meal, Thanks MOM) But what surprises me, even though many folks who answered my "How many are retired military" I seldom see any Airstreams at the base campgrounds.

Thanks to all responders, I salute you.
