Has anyone else camped out in their own back yard or driveway to check out how the unit works? My neighbors think I'm a red-neck factory workin' woman, but I may be just a red neck. Can anyone help me clarify this for my neighbors?
I camp out in the AS now and again. Our house doesn't have air conditioning so when it's a hot, still humid night, that's where i'll be with the ac on full blast. I just love driveway camping.
I sleep like a rock in it.
I am probably what one might call a redneck. I am LIVING in my Airstream right now. I purchased a cabin in the Big Thompson Canyon in Colorado and it needs to be "remodled" before it can be called a home. Heck, I have everything I need. Even a microwave. The A/C feels good, I have a septic system so there's no problem with sewage, good water and beautiful surroundings, I might not ever finish the house!
I don't know how this winter is going to work out however.

I noted in your profile that you are from Southern Wisconsin. When I originally purchased my '64 Overlander, I was teaching in in Grant County Wisconsin (18 miles north of Platteville).
If you haven't already discovered its existence, Wisconsin has a very active WBCCI (Wally Byam Caravan Club International) unit with a large number of Vintage owners - - I am still a member despite my move to Illinois. Ed Emerick is the Unit President and tows a beautiful '68 Sovereign with a '75 International Travelall. The Region 7 VAC Rally last month was a great event, and was hosted by the Wisconsin Unit - - many families with children were in attendance and virtually every rig had at least one pet traveling along as well. If you are interested in learning more about the Wisconsin unit, let me know and I will PM the contact information to you.
The "in-the-drive" shakedown method is a "tried-and-true" means of safely determining the functionality of a coach's systems - - I suspect that probably 80+% of RV owner's have used the system at least once.

so, now i'm going to my tri-axle tin-tent in the driveway in the front of the house, wearing my tinfoil (aluminum?) hat (which, btw, i find to be ever-so-much-more a fashion statement than those silly cheese wedges you wear) and have a beer.
oh... and i'm not sure what to make of the clucking cheesehead... ???

We have camped in the driveway many times, like when we repainted our bedroom, when we remodeled our kitchen we cooked and did dishes there for a month, and have used it many times as a guest house. Its a great way for a new owner to check things out and if you also cook and do dishes etc. you will find what items you will need when camping. Make the list and have everything ready for your first trip.
For years, my trailer was my favorite place to grab a nap or get away from the Bunco ladies. Now, I can't keep the trailer at home because of the covenants except for short periods such as preparing for a trip.
Now that I have 30A service available, I'll still use it as a guest house now and then, and I'll grab a nap in there whenever I bring it home to prepare for a trip or to do some work on it.

Man I thought I had it bad with two daughters and a Wife. Even the dog ins a girl. Just me and the old cat. I just go out to the manspace (garage) and fix things when I'm ovewhelmed.
As for the Red Neck....Nah that's scientific testing.
