My Airstream is gonna be in a movie

My 1972 Safari will be "set dressing" outside a "biker bar" in a new film being shot here in New Mexico called Wild Hogs staring John Travolta, Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence. When the art director first talked to me about it he said, "it's not one of those shined up ones, is it?" I said no, that I just got it and it had been sitting outside for years. He said "Great!" I said it had some hail damage on the front cap "Wonderful!" he replied. He asked me to send him some "audition" pictures and said, "Please don't even wash it when you take the pictures." So, here's an instance where polish doesn't pay. Guess I'll keep her "au natural" for any future possible cameo appearances. Sometimes the aged pewter look is preferable to polished.

I sold my 1971 Tradewind last February and my next door neighbor told me he was disappointed. He is a freelance cinematographer and he was hoping to land a gig with the opportunity to use my Airstream. Too late.

We found ourselves laughing as well. I think we identified ourselves and our first RV, a SOB moho. Corny and yet still a fun movie. Wait until it comes out on DVD and rent or buy it and laugh in your Airstream late one night. Loved seeing those Airstream cameos in the movie as well.

The Hills Have Eyes/ Shalom in the Home

I don't know if I'm repeating movies listed here, but a couple other shows (that I've watched just to see the airstream) are The Hills Have Eyes (the saddest part of the gore fest was when the airstream was blown up in the end) and Shalom in the Home a series. There was an '88 revamped Internationl 32' by the look of it in Hills and Shalom's looks a little smaller. Just thought I'd share. Have a great Fourth of July weekend.

Wild Hogs

The movie Wild Hogs will feature my Airtream, Airylle. It supposed to come out next year and stars John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and Tim Allen with a rumored cameo appearance by Peter Fonda.

Unfortunately, Airylle was involved in a pyro stunt which burned considerably hotter than the SPX folks thought. Altho' Airylle was a good distance away, she still received significant damage to all things plastic on the curb side, including the air conditioner, the front window guard and the curbside panel guard. In addition, the set dressers decided she needed to be "aged" by splattering her with this stuff that looked like mud but is some special movie paint that is supposed to wash right off. And....it probably would have...except the fire kind of baked it on so that when it was washed the clear coat peeled underneath the splotches. Indeed Airylle is suffering extreme clear coat dandruff with pieces as large as dinner plates peeling off the top.

The good news is that the movie company is really working on making everything right and seem genuinely sorry that it happened. They even had their own truck bring parts from Inland RV here to New Mexico to insure they would be here in time for the Lewster to work his magic on putting things right. And, as a matter of fact, she is looking much better with the new window and panel gaurds--except of course for the skin curbside.

So, all in all, I guess everything is working out and you can be sure I'll both go see Wild Hogs on the big screen and buy it on DVD when it comes out.

Just noticed a commercial for Acura tonight, with a detection system that could warn you of objects ahead in foggy weather. The object ahead was an Airstream... it was only the back end of a vintage unit; but still qualifies as a sighting, doesn't it?

Just watched "The Hills Have Eyes", featuring an Airstream that Dad restored and is taking his family through the desert (abandoned nuclear test site) on vacation. The Airstream is the best part of the movie. Funny how the interior is sooo much larger than the exterior, and they're able to travel inside with the AC on.

Not the movies, but Scifi has a new series called "Eureka". I just finished watching this weeks' episode. The previews for next week show an Excella will be part of the program. Looks like maybe a late '70's? model.

This show is produced in British Columbia, I believe. Any of our Canadian friends rent out their camper lately?

Airstreams on TV

In the TV show Carpocalypse, during Fordzilla's anger management session with Raybo's demo car, there is a shot of Demo Dave and family and in the distant background is what looks like a polished 29-31ft Airstream. It was just a quick flash. Amazed I saw it.

Amazed I admit that I watch this trainwreck of a show.

I'll have to look when I get home. I'm thinking it is Spike TV. This was the second season.

aluminitis is hereditary

My girls ages 5 and 10 spotted an Airstream in the movie Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure. I'm in another room and hear "There's an Airstream Mommy!" After Pee Wee's "there's no basement in the Alamo" he heads to the rodeo and winds up in the cowboy trailer park and sure enough there's the Airstream. I guess I've infected my kids with aluminitis!!

Brand New Girlfriend...

A music video by Steve Holy. Saw it on GAC yesterday. A newer model 28' International CCD is featured prominently in the video....outside shots mostly...a few inside shots, too. It's got the blue interior.

The video is pretty funny. Heard the song a bunch of times, but had never seen the video before. The new girlfriend is of the *vinyl variety*.

Movie trailer...

Movie: "Accepted"

- right after the words "What Do You Want To Learn?" is a flash of two young men sitting on a curb with a 40's/50's vintage trailer with a pole awning (blue and white stripes). Looks like a Globetrotter or maybe a Tradewind sized trailer.

Music video......

Last night on VH1 Classic they showed Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" video. Prominently displayed in the opening scenes is an early 60's Airstream single axle (Safari I think) nestled in a trailer park. The funny thing is that the storyline has her and her beau leaving town for a new life (but the trailer stays behind). Immediately I tell my wife that they should just be hitching it up and hitting the road.
