I think there is a MSNBC promo with a soldiers family and an Airstream.
Never catch the gist of it, it goes by real fast. Will prob disappear altogether when MSNBC changes its name.
My greater amazement is that I even take note of such things (but I surely do).
I mean I pass same automobiles and trucks as mine all the time and see them in comercials etc and don't give a flip. Why do I care who else has or uses an Airstream.
Here's a good one: this was posted at acruamdx.org (they really take pleasure when a competitor stumbles...) I have no idea what the specs are for the trailer in the ad, but it's apparent that VW's eating a little crow.
Busted! VW Pulls False Advertising for Touareg Right on the heels of the "vaunted" SUV of the Year award, VW is exposed for misrepresenting the Touareg's towing capabilities in its television ads.
Yes, we have noticed the "presence" of Airstreams in quite a few commercials.....in one I noticed on TV , think it was for Chevy PU's, I wondered it the Airstream was actually hooked to the PU.
Is it possible that Airstream pays manufacturers/product advertisers for these "cameo" appearances?
I actually don't see much Airstream advertising that seems specifically paid for by the factory.
As we all now, the perception of Airstream as a large company with deep pockets and an appetite for national advertising could not be farther from the truth.
Not since the Beatrice years has Airstream truly ventured into the realm of advertising. This philosophy has taken root as part of Airstream corporate culture and is not something that is likely to change any time soon.
However, recently Airstream has begun thinking strategically about how to leverage its “star power” and brand cache to help drive awareness and create buzz in lieu of paid advertising. Organic placements in ads, TV shows and movies are often more valuable than paid advertising as it becomes a tacit endorsement rather than an overt message that is usually ignored.
Interestingly enough, Airstream typically does not pay for these placement opportunities. Advertisers, producers and TV production designers place such a high degree of value on the presence of the Airstream that they actually pay Airstream for the right to use the trailer/ icon in their programs.
Airstream is working hard to cultivate an image of the “it” product with a pedigree of design, quality and innovation. With a history of traveling in style around the world for nearly 75 years the Airstream trailer is often seen as a metaphor for modernity, luxury travel and timeless design. It has been adopted by celebrities, design aficionados and nostalgic Americana types as something that helps communicate a certain aspect of their lives.
The Airstream owners community are truly embassadors of the brand and embody the very lifestyles and values that advertisers and celebrities seek to emulate.
Toward the end of an ad for hair product Garnier Fructis I spied what looks to be a bit older Classic. Colonial Airstream comes through again and has a pic from the ad. Tour de France knocks down any other reality programming out there and the scenery is not to be missed! Love those sunflower shots...
Tim; I can't help but wonder how AS hopes to cultivate the "it" image as you say in the face of continued faulty quality control. I bought a 2004 after reading about the many flaws in the '02 and '03 models, only to find the same poor workmanship. Now, we read the same accounts from 2005 owners. I can only assume AS/Thor has more into promotion than quality. It irks me to hear you say the owners community are truly embassadors of the brand, then to continuously read on this forum of (at least) new owners experience and apparent indifference by the company.
Our 1972 A/S is just great!! Sorry to hear about your 04. Maybe we can blame the workers of this era on quality control. Plus,Thor may have lost sight of the product and is only thinking $$$ signs. I don't know, but we still love our AS.
My wife watched the show "Wildfire" on ABC Family, and the girl lives on a ranch in what appears to be a 70's Tradewind. In the pilot she was in an International but after going back to Juvie' she moved into the Tradewind(?). The show is on Monday's.
If you ever have the opportunity for your unit to be photographed for a commercial, take it. An aside; several years ago we were contacted by an ad agency, representing an unheard of manufacturer of dental equipment, Heraeus Kulzer. Apparently a German engineer recognized vague similarity between their "translux power blue polymerization light" (?) and the transmission gear shift column of a 1959 mercedes-benz 190 sl. Our car was chosen for the shoot.
Bottom line: we were paid handsomely, the picture appeared only in obscure trade journals, and the photographic crew lusted not over the car, but our old excella. The model, a gorgeous young natural blonde girl, still appears on the company web-site (eating one of my apples), but alas, not in the car. She used the airstream for a dressing room and her pheremones have endured for years.
Since that time we have received a call from a dentist in San Antonio and an endodontist in Seattle asking if we would sell the car. Imagine if the excella had been pictured. Twice since 2001, the photographer (near Chicago) called about using the airstream, but both times we were in Arizona.

Doc Charles -- You are spare but brilliant in your posts. I would request that you post the photos mentioned to ASForums. Reduce it with a simple program, what-evah... I went to http://www.heraeus-kulzer-us.com/ and there is no curing light immediately apparent. Under "Dentist Products" I can find a topic of "Light Curing Units" but no joy...
For those of you who are Country Music fans.....on DishNetwork station CMT "Top Twenty Countdown" they have several lead-ins before they start another round of music. In one lead-in, there's a silouette vintage AS with a vintage TV (I swear it looks like Van's....another forum member) that drives across the screen. There is nothing to identify that it's an AS......but the silouette is a dead give away. Has anyone else seen this?? Or am I the only Shania Twain and Sara Evans fan on the forums???
