Airstreams on "The Apprentice"

Just finished watching "The Apprentice". During the "preview" for next weeks episode, they showed a couple of Airstreams and indicated that next weeks task would be to "outfit" the trailers for a business purpose. Gotta set the VCR for that one. I'd guess the trailers were 28' CCD's from the brief shot of the exteriors.

TitanTV.com Description

The description for the February 17, 2005 airing from TitanTV.com is the following:

The Apprentice* * * *
Airstream of Consciousness*

The 13 remaining contenders hop on Airstream trailers for this week's assignment. One risks everything, while another shows why sloth doesn't pay off.* (2005)

Humm, quite a dilema for my tivo.

It seems to have chosen to record next weeks Apprentice under my Airstream wishlist instead of my Apprentice season pass...

Ain't technology great!

I gotta admit, I enjoy bits and pieces of the show too. Watching Trump loop the audio for the phone call he's taking on his chopper, as if he happened to be en route to a corporate takeover... was hilarious. I was rolling on the floor on that one. What's next week, Trump fires someone during a bubble bath? That's one prepared cameraman - always happens to be in the right place!

Any show that chastises that "tasteless" and "awful" cucumber commercial, then replays it three times during the show (to make sure we understood how truly tasteless it was?) has guts.

Those producers and directors knew perfectly well how unbelievably hypocritical that was, after all the characters agree that it didn't belong on television. Yet they know that 90% of t.v. watching America is too stupid to notice something like that. That takes guts.

(Yeah, I'm part of the other 10% that doesn't get fooled very often.)

The Airstream re-dos will be cool, but I hope they don't rip apart perfectly good CCD's - those are the better-designed ones in the first place!!!

You have to give credit to Airstream for getting their product featured on such a high profile TV show. I'll bet it'll do wonders for slow Winter sales.

That's one thing I often wonder about... in all these cases of Airstreams showing up in movies, magazine ads, etc., do you think it's always Airstream approaching the "other guy", or does the "other guy" see Airstream's recognition and reputation, and seek out Airstream? I mean, who does deserve credit (or blame if it's a lousy idea) for Airstream appearences?

I think that it's both. I worked for Land Rover North America and I know that the corporate office was always looking for opportunities to get the product in the right position. Look at who got Jurrassic Park. But Land Rover got Tomb Rader.

I'll have to get my wife to tape it for me, Trumps style just isn't mine and I served my apprenticeship under the direction of real men not a sissy wearing a pink tie. I wonder if Donald has ever done a real day's work for scale wages?

Product placement and promotions are big on the Apprentice and nothing is accidental. There is probably a lot of negotiations that take place to make it happen. I suspect there are agents involved and most all corporations have advertising media departments looking for not only paid advertising angles but also free publicity placements and negotiated placements. With Airstream there was probably a champion in the Trump organization that liked them and helped make it happen. Right now Airstream in the RV industry is hot and the only high design product out there. No way would they work with an aluminum white box trailer with gaudy color swooshes on them. Branding is important and Airstream definitely leads in this.

The group that put Airstream together with "The Apprentice" is Fast Horse Inc., of Minneapolis. http://www.fasthorseinc.com/index.htm

Aha! A local connection (to us). I guess the show has to air before they put something on their web site about it. I'd think they would definitely want to trump Trump.
