Airstreams and Flamingos

I've posted before that my Airstream has a cameo role in a movie being filmed here in New Mexico called Wild Hogs, starring Tim Allen, John Travolta and Martin Lawrence. When I first discussed my trailer's role as prop for a biker bar with the set dresser, I mentioned that Airstreams really must be accompanied by flamingos for that "authentic" touch. She asked me why and I said, I really didn't know, but that they just do, that it is a regular topic of discussion on the Forums. I sent her the link to the "Florida Bird Flu" thread that appeared here a few weeks back and she got a kick out of it.

News from the movie set is that she did indeed put a flamingo in front of my Airstream along with a couple of ratty lawn chairs and a clothesline. The original 1972 TV antennae is also raised. I plan to drive up and visit "Airylle" this weekend to see exactly how she is made up as scooter trash sloth den. Wish I could post some pictures, but Disney considers that a no-no. So, I thought it might be fun to start a thread devoted specifically to the symbiotic relationship of Airstreams and flamingos--sort of an illustrated guide--and that other folks could post their pictures.

Cool thread.

I have gone flamingo crazy for some reason. Peppy already has 2 that travel with us to every campground and I have my eye on another pair to give the others company. Today I was shopping and spotted a darling straw bad with 3 flamingo's I didn't get it, but I'm going back. I'm the one that started the bird flu thread a friend sent it to me and now on a regular basis kids me about my Airstream and flamingos.

I just got my matched pair of pink flamingos for my trip West in a couple of weeks. I also have a great strand of 'Miami Lights' to hang from the awning that alternate flamingos and palm trees. I can't wait to see the reactions at the 'RV Resorts' that I will be stopping at to work.

Hey there Lew and Rebel. Can you give us some info on where to get our Flamingos? Gotta have a couple before our next trip for sure, especially since we'll be camping at an all Airstream park. Thanks.

Zoomin,
I got mine off of ebay, you can also do a web search and find several. Just be sure if you order off ebay to check the sizes some are giant and some are smaller. I got the smaller ones.

Shari I cant get your link to pull up.

My uneducated Flamingos are from NM!

Hello all -

Since SilverToy has joined us, I have been on the serious look out for the fine feathered pink additions that make AS's just that extra bit of...... well, Cool really!!!

Found the family of four Flamingos on sale at Lowes. They are a happy addition.

They travel with the "Slow, children playing" signs that I have had to pick up more times that I care to talk about since I nearly witnessed a child get run over in my neighborhood as well as at campgrounds. I also have a green plastic gnome that holds a flag that has the intent to make people slow down. Not working as so far they have stolen his flag.

Perhaps I can just populate the street with Pink Flamingos in traffic calming patterns and have them do the work for me.....? Flamingos can be like traffic cones, can't they???

Thoughts??

Axel

Thanks Becky and Kevbo. With our pink flamingos, our Airstream will now seem more complete.

Airstream store

Actually, I got mine from the Airstream store on the web site. Nice to know that the factory supports our little idiosyncracies .

Geez, I got mine at Wal-Mart for less than $6 for the pair... and they were made in America, too. (It must have been a mistake that Wal-Mart was carrying them.)
