Airstream with slide-out

Are they still making an airstream with a slide-out? If not were there any issues with the ones they made years ago>

There are a number of threads on the earlier slide out models. For instance:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f366...ry-159166.html

The new search function above works very well, and here are the search results for "slide out" which reveals a number of mentions on all kinds of diverse threads:

To my knowledge they are no longer made.

Have a good weekend.

We love our slideout. The peninsula sink takes up floor space but gives more usable counter top. I mounted a larger TV over the microwave. I use the top of the microwave cabinet for electronics like the satellite antenna controller and receiver and a WiFi router.

DW found two flip top Ottomans that almost match the leather that the second owner used to recover the sofa and dinette and they provide some more storage although we don't feel cramped for storage space. We put things in the Ottoman that won't fir or ride safely anywhere else.

Other than needing adjustment when I bought it, I have had no problems with the slideout and don't know anyone who has. The mechanism is beefy, probably overkill for the weight of the slide. Other than a few drops of water when closing the slide with water on top, I have had no leaks and have been in some serious rainstorms. The trailer is perfectly usable without opening the slide. We eat lunch in rest stops, spent a night at a Cracker Barrel, use the restroom, all without opening the slide.

We had a Safari 25 that had been modified by the original owner when he bought it to have two recliners. As a part of that mod, the flip up tables went away. There was no other seating, and we had to eat from TV trays, not all that convenient in a recliner. We wanted more space, a dinette, and more seating. The Classic 30 slideout fits our needs perfectly.

We have a 2002 30’ Classic with the slide. The only issue I have is that the slide *must* be out to fold the couch into a bed. We have 4 kids, so that’s kind of a “must” for us. However, we’ve never had any problems with the slide, including while boondocking. It works for our current situation perfectly.

Having said all that, I think they only made them with slides in 2002 & 2003, and I know they were only available in certain models. If you were hoping to have one custom made with a slide, that would be a question for the good people at Airstream.

If you have more questions, hop over to the Slide Out Society. Super nice group of people!

Unique but not too rare

Airstream no longer manufactures a slide-out edition. The last one was made in model year 2009. The first editions were introduced in 2000 and three models were made over the production years: 30' and 34' Classics and a 28' Safari.

There has been a prolonged discussion on the forums about just how many were made without resolution, but there are 80 currently listed under the thread labeled 'Slide Out Society Owners Registry' and the model count by year is located here: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f366...ml#post2048417

There are many posts on the forums written as a caution against slide-out ownership but none that post have indicated that they have actually owned an Airstream slide-out trailer personally (typically some other slide product experience or hearsay). The current owners seem to be a very contented owner's group. I have had mine for a decade now without a complaint to lodge against the slide mechanism or it being a source of leaks/problems. Otherwise, it is an Airstream with all the other typical issues of ownership.

If you find one, you may want to buy it as the resale values have risen nicely over the past few years.
