airstream sightings

I finally caught the storage area gate open near where I live and spotted a bunch of airstreams and other interesting things. It was fun cruising and taking pictures...my daughter in the back screaming, "I see one!!"

Hi. My son also calls out if we see an AS and even calls out "SOB" (we call it Squrare Old Box) for any other type of trailers.... How very excited the kids are when they see one on the road! Now if I could convinece him that not all Toyota's are Camery's we'd really be getting somewhere!

The most AS's I've seen is one or two in a "trailer parking lot/storage area" so to see so many at once is very cool! Then again, that may be one of differences between California and Iowa!

Since mid July I've seen 6 or maybe 7 AS TT or Arg. on I-35 or I-80 in and around the Des Moines area.

We saw this nice 22' 1964 Land Yacht two nights ago while walking the family (woof-woof!). My wife had seen it 3 blocks away while returning from work. The badge by the door states Land Yacht.

I double checked vintageairstream.com -- It says the 22' was the 'Safari' and the VIN was in the format S 0 22 4 1(2) 0NNN for Ohio-built trailers. The VIN of the trailer below is S-O22420NN (Last 2 digits hidden to protect the innocent -- I don't know the party and they weren't home to talk to). I'm confused -- tho't 'S' was for California and 'O' was for Ohio... Any experts on Californie wheel wells out there?

My photo and Vintage Airstream's don't agree on door positions... ?! Pics of the name badge by request.

The problem out here especially in the immediate Bay Area, is that no one has any place to store theirs. There are three or four houses on our block that have no driveway at all, and our neighbors share a driveway. A lot of people have to park on their lawns. I don't think we would have purchased an AS if we didn't have a driveway that can park three cars. But it fits perfectly; we have the truck in the driveway, the airstream behind it, then a driveway gate, and then the back area of the driveway is in our yard and we store tools and lumber etc. back there. Then we have a detached garage and a big (for our area) yard. The downside is our house is only 1100 square feet!

I'd been driving by almost wrecking, looking through the gates at this storage area. I saw one through the gates so I knew there was at least one in there. It's actually a marina and there are mostly boats stored there, but the gate was always closed or I was in a rush and couldn't stop before today. There was one more airstream there, but the owner was there and the trailer door was open; I couldn't tell if he could see me snapping pictures or not. I decided not to risk it and plus it was HOT here, so we moved on.

I still like mine best! But that little Bambi (I think) is a beauty, isn't it??

We have a villa in the North Texas Airstream Community (NTAC www.hillsboro.net/users/tcollier/NTAC.html ) & it's hard not to see an Airstream every once in a while .

Comming back from St. Petersburg to Cape Coral yesterday I saw several airstreams heading south. Are they nuts!!!
Get out of this area before we have the next storm!!!!
Pray Ivan heads to the atlantic ocean, or another area.

The coach pictured "may not" have had a model name assigned as I suspect that it is likely a factory custom order. The jalousie window on the streetside is the clue - - an acquaintance in the Free Wheelers custom ordered a '64 coach with jalousie windows (it was a larger tandem axle coach that I believe was based on the Sovereign) on the streetside. The only standard jalousie windows on the '64 coaches (so far as I have been able to learn) were those beside the entry door (on longer coaches) and possibly the jalousie window in the Bambi II's entry door.

I believe the "O" in the VIN represented Land Yacht trim level while an "I" would represent International trim level - - my '64 Overlander has an "I" in that position representing its International trim level.

Went to Beech River in Parsons, TN back in July. Counted 5 Airstreams is the area parks up and down the river. Most I have seen as one time. Nice campgrounds and water activities. Will definitely go back!

I saw an nice Airstream MH on I-75 in N. Atlanta today. It had a band of woodgrain running around the middle. I don't know enough about them to know the length or model and didn't have a chance to get close enough to see the tag for its state of residency. It was too close to my exit and two lanes over.

Reporting Airstream sightings is great sport. Let's keep it going from time to time. With people getting back on the road for fall camping trips, we should have lots more sightings!

I saw a vintage 25-27 footer yesterday on my way home. It was just north of the Union City exit on I-85 just south of I-285 heading into Atlanta during rush hourin the left lane. Hope he/she wasn't planning on getting to the northside before dark! Rush hour in Atlanta is bad enough without a TT in tow.

Saw a fairly new +or- 30' classic last Saturday headed south on I-75 south connector in down town Atlanta. He/she had just been in teriffic traffic jam caused by construction on interstate.

I also saw a +or- 30' headed south on I-75 connector about 8:00 this morning on my way to work. It was being pulled by a white truck. Didn't have time to notice make or # of doors on tow vehicle.

I'm just not good at spotting AS's yet. I'm also going to stop by a used car lot on my way home today and take some pics of an AS one of my co-workers told me about and post if anyone is interested.

Two in Reno

My husband is so cooperative. He goes out of his way to drive by when the kids scream "Airstream!" so I can take a picture. Love this game!

One was out in front of the Holiday Inn, it was too cold to get out and get closer, sorry it's so dark. The other one at the Chevron parking lot in Boomtown. Both look pretty nice but the second one is a beauty. Hey if you recognize this trailer as yours, come on out and say hi here on the posts!

Pic #1
An old Airstream being used as a storage unit out on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge fishing pier. What a waste.

Pic #2
A 34 footer being used as living quarters at an upscale new housing community in Tampa. Parked next to the sales office, it has water, electric and a construction site bw tank dug in to the ground that gets pumped out when they empty the Porta Potties. Nice trailer.
