Three Airstreams in the USA RV park in Gallup, NM. One a newer Safari, one a Squarestream, and a motor home.

Well I had a sighting that I'd classify as a Super Sighting. By that, I mean, "kid in a candy store" kinda super sighting. Yesterday afternoon, west of Pittsburgh, in Robinson Township at the Cracker Barrel parking lot was a beautiful polished Safari. I could tell from a distance it was a 60's vintage. So, I stopped and met Doug and Terry from Ontario. They were waiting on a few more Airstreams and going to spend the night in the parking lot, before heading out to Jackson Center. So, I headed home and hooked up my rig to go back and camp with them. When all was said and done, there were 8 Airstreams at my mother in law's farm, in the side yard. The kids were champion lightning bug catchers, so Marie handed out custom made lightning bug enclosures (from the recycle bin). Future Eagle Scout, Dan (traveling with his parents, Mark and Becky, vintage towed) put together an excellent camp fire. It was a great evening. Airstream Number 9 (Dan B and his son, Drew) rolled in at about 1230 am, after searching for the GPS coordinates for 2 hours. This was the WDCU contingent heading west. What a great group of folks. Rob and Zoe and their three, Dale (Ace), Frank's daughter, Barbara, Linda, and Reggie, completed the crew. (The chances I missed someone or got some names wrong is high, so my apologies.)
So, that would constitute a super sighting turned rally, but, to top it off, I got to go with Frank to the airport to pick up Dale "Pee Wee" Schwamborn.
So, I'm going to upgrade this to a Super Sighting on Steriods!
Thanks, and safe journeys WDCU,
Roy

I loved your story. I'd like reading some more about it. Maybe you will see some more Airstreams on their journey. And Pee Wee! You can't top that for an experience.
Are they going to stop by after the International?

Just got home from picking up megan from a friends and saw what looked like a 34 footer in the Praking lot of the RV/MH HOF. I think we may go over after dinner and say "Hello" if they are still there. Mike

Met up with that crew in Elkhart, Ind...Pee Wee told some great stories too.. We all stayed in a full hookup campground and did that pool feel great. Fri AM we all headed for Wisconsin. They all got off the highway before I did so they could make the vintage pre rally. I went on to Madison about 30 miles north. We are ALL here now and the vintage parade was GREAT!!! I was at the vintage happy hour this afternoon also... Great times with great friends..

Not really a sighting but...............
For those of you that might be interested in old vehicles as well as old Airstreams and old Airstreamers like Gene, here is a link to a YouTube video. The MVPA (Military Vehicle Preservation Association) was in the midst of the Transcontinental Motor Convoy 2009 and was passing through Ames, Iowa on June 22. Why is this here, you say? Well, watch at about 1 minute, 12 seconds and then again at 4 minutes, 2 seconds.
The concept is odd. A bunch of old guys, usually veterans, pack up the missus, jump into an old OD heap and set out in a convoy across the US of A.
This, my friends, is why I spent all my US Army time in helicopters instead of rough riding vehicles w/ no CD players, A/C, or cup holders!

I wonder how many of those drivers were actually WWII vets?
Hell, wouldn't the youngest of them have to be in his eighties?

Saskatchewan Sightings
We just got back from our summer holiday to southern Saskatchewan (just above Montana). Besides incredible scenery, we saw lots of silver! On our rainy drive on the TransCanada Hwy, we saw a 2007. We gave big waves and ended up both staying at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. We met Xenon & Christine and their family. On the same highway, we saw a 50s/60s A/S, but they didn't see us.
A few days later, we were in a very remote area, Wood Mountain, near Grasslands National Park. There were only 3 trailers there....ALL Airstreams! We met a couple with a 1985 (?) Excella on their way back to Ontario (I hope you had a safe journey) and another couple from Regina, SK with a 1979 (?). How exciting for us! It just goes to prove that Airstreamers don't follow the same paths as SOB owners. We go places that others haven't even heard of.
Thanks for the tours of your units. It was a real treat!

Spotted an Argosy being pulled by a red pickup at Chaco Canyon, NM last week. Too far away to get a picture but someone was sure adventurous, towing that trailer over 20 + miles of really bad bone-shaking rivet-popping road!

Probably there were few WWII vets. The trip would be brutal for a young person. There were Korean and Vietnam era vehicles in the convoy, as well. I think the M37A that was pulling the OD Airstream was Korean era vintage. Some are veterans, some are veterans relatives, and some are folks that like the vehicles for any reason.
I'm not sure of the participant numbers but there were not that many that are going the whole 3,000 miles. Anyone was free to jump in the convoy and go for as many miles as they wanted. They were fed and entertained by various hte VFW, American Legion, AmVets, and other civic groups that like veterans.
The last I checked they group was in Cheyenne, WY. They are a lot tougher than I am!

At NK'Mip CG June 2009
Our trailer on the right, the other two folks in the new Airstreams were two of several in the CG over a week period. We also saw half a dozen, all newer, heading down highway 3 east through Manning Provincial Park and several "dead" ones in fields that have been there for at least the 8 years we've been doing this annual trip.

Ken,
Thanks for asking Ken. I'm close to being able to do so. I have to go 12 months without any major recurrences and I just completed 7 . In the meantime we are doing trips around the Province and up to 2 hours south of the border, expanding our distance outbound a little more and doing a bit more driving time each day. Hoping for DH in February.
Take care,
Barry

The biggest risk I have is providing sharing what I consider to be my vast driving experience to Donna while she is doing the towing. I know from time to time the thought has crossed her mind (maybe more often than I'd like to think) that on the next curve it would be an easy thing to just reach over to the passenger door handle, pop it open, and give me a shove as we travel along some lonely mountainous road with a sheer drop off of several thousand feet. It is a darned good thing she's a pacifist, although I have seen a certain look in her eyes a few times that scares me, after I've made a particularly good suggestion about how I would handle a specific situation if I were behind the wheel at the time. I suspect the thought is that it wouldn't take much to put me under the wheels.......
Oh well, nothing duct tape won't cure...

Grand Rapids sighting and Better Homes and Gardens
Last page of Better Homes and Gardens, July 2009, California couple and their restoration project; spotted a late 50s or early 60s, maybe Flying Cloud or Caravelle in downtown Grand Rapids last week, running late, no camera ...
