We were coming back from florida (to NC pulling AS) that weekend, april 2, and we saw a bunch of units coming and going as well.. We did spend more time off N I-95 due to traffic at times. was directed by google maps to get off at the I-16 exit, head into Savannah, cross the River on the cool bridge and head north on hwy 17 to ridgeland and get back on 95.. it saved us almost 45 mins due to traffic on the "big road" ...

google map app with traffic turned on and routed is the DEAL..

Got passed by a black VW Touareg pulling a 19ft Airstream going probably 80+ MPH today. He waved. Mind still blown.

As I'm tooling along at 65 mph I have many travel trailers, motor homes, and fifth wheels pass me, but never another Airstream trailer...

Like they say at the electrocution, "More power to 'em".

These high speed runs are fun until a tire fails or some faster chap cuts in and suddenly hits the brakes.

A fairly large percentage of the Airstream owners are close to or have attained senior citizen status. With that "honor" comes slower reactions to all situations as compared to twenty or thirty years earlier in their life. Thus a more reasonable speed compensates for these slower reaction times.

I find that 55 mph works well with the Mercedes ML320 CDI towing the 23D as it does not work too hard. The Classic and the Ram 2500HD I limit to the peak torque point of 1,650 rpm which is 65 mph on the interstates and 55 mph on secondary roads.

YMMV

I find the transmission runs cooler at the 60 to 65 range, as well. Those wanting to blow by will be seen farther down the road, usually with a blown tire, blown radiator, blown transmission (with or without fire), or blown money from the speeding ticket the trooper is writing.....

I saw a newer Airstream parked at the KOA campground in North Little Rock, Arkansas. About twenty minutes later, I saw an older one getting on I-40 east bound at the Crystal Hill exit in North Little Rock. The TV was a Chevy PU.

I saw about 11 Airstreams yesterday. 4 (including us) here at Grayton Beach State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, FL and 7 being used as an outdoor food court at the village of Seaside just down the road from here. I tried the Cuban sandwich on sourdough handed to me through a glassless window frame of a 1980s tandem axle model. It was good.

Saw this 2015 Flying Cloud at the rest stop on I-70 near Solomon, KS. Just came through the hail and rain and tornado warnings. Thankful that our car was unscathed 😃

Also, as we drove through Bendersville, PA we saw a newer, very long Airstream. It was sitting on the top of a hill, awning open, surrounded by an orchard full of blooming apple trees.

We are back at Ken's Lake in Moab and he SAME Airstream couple that was here when we were here in October showed up a day after us. Towing a 23fter with a white way older Toyota Tundra (the old body style when it was the size of the Tacoma) with side steps and a cap.

Also saw some Airstreams in town. Think I spotted a 27ft being towed by a white Ram 2500 in ACT Campground.

There is a 30' International at the Key Deer National Wildlife Refuge volunteer village on Big Pine Key.

Florida is a great place to find the aluminum beauties.....

Most prevalent trailer make here (pretty empty at the moment) at Bryce Zion CG is Airstream, us and a nice late model Flying Cloud with Minnesota plates and a red F150 TV.

There's an Airstream on the cover of the Parade Magazine insert in the Sunday paper this morning.

Minno, Check out this morning's thread "our Daisy is famous", looks like that Airstream on the cover of parade is non other than the Forums " Two Chicks " and their golden Daisy. They take great photos.

Didn't take a camera on our walk around Buttonwood Campground at Bahia Honda SP in Florida, but a Bambi and a Basecamp have moved in. Will try to snap photos tomorrow while doing volunteer duties....
