We saw 5 vintage on the road one at a time between Colorado Springs Dillon and Wilkerson Pass on our outing this week end. Made a loop and stayed three nights on Badger Flats rain or damp the entire time but the worst day of camping is better than the best day at work any time. We had a restful time. Edit to add that is the most A/S we have seen on the road on any trip.

Angeles Crest Highway

We saw a newer Airstream heading west on the newly reopened Angeles Crest Highway closer to the west side--perhaps near the Mt. Wilson turn off at about 2:30 pm today. We were traveling eastbound towards Wrightwood and the Airstream was heading in the opposite directiion.....this road has been closed for several years due to a rock slide during a winter storm......and just reopened this week......it was a beautiful ride.....hard to believe there is such beautiful wilderness so close to Los Angeles..we drove from sea level to over 7900 feet in less than 200 miles round trip--even saw quite a few patches of snow on the north facing slopes and had a great view the north side of Mt. San Antonio which is over 11,000 ft. pj

My sister had to call me and tell me she just saw "the biggest freaking Airstream ever" today on Hwy. 416 close to Ottawa. She's not an A/S owner but appreciates that I enjoy sightings, even 2nd-hand.

She said it was a "honking" trailer with 3 wheels on each side, and pulled by what looked like a GMC Safari. She may be very descriptive with her A/S adjectives, but I had to express a bit of disbelief at what was most likely a 34' trailer being pulled by a sturdy minivan? She stood behind her observations - it looked like a Safari or an Astro.

Odd.

Not really odd for Canada, Mac. Have a look at this. Two different 34-footers being towed by V6 engined- vehicles, and a 24' Argosy being towed by a Jetta!

Airstream Sitings

Spotted a fairly new airstream (2000+) headed south on the I-215 between San Bernardino and Riverside at about 1150.

Spotted one yesterday for sale on the side of the road Hwy 60 "Grand Ave" in Sun City, AZ. When I passed by again the owner was giving a tour.

In the next zipcode

Found this one parked in the backyard nearby. Looks like they're getting ready to go camping.

airstream sightings

Just returned from sightseeing near Dodgeville, Wisconsin. An early-to-mid-1970s Airstream was parked beside the road with a For Sale sign -- price indicated was $4,500. It appeared to be either a Trade Wind or Overlander. The location was at US 18 a few blocks South of Lands End.

It was not me..

I'm a wimp on this. I was supposed to be on the road from Dallas to Indianapolis yesterday to deliver the Caravel to the new owners. Weather, including hail everywhere, delayed the trip. Again today same thing. The Caravel is tucked away in the barn.
I called the owners who were on the way via Springfield, MO. to St. Louis then to Indy. As I was explaining my delay they hollered that they were coming up on three Airstreams ...a Sovereign, an Excella and ???....all headed east. Wondered if they got hammered last night and if they are on the way to Moraine Rally.

Was out running errands the other day saw 2 A/S. One I see on a regular basis, beauty little super shiney Bambi in a driveway on Northern & 14th in Central Phoenix the other in a storage lot on Northern & Grand Ave in Glendale.
I sure love the Bambi, I drool every time I drive past it, so lucky they get to park their's in the drive...envy.

I saw an interstate and an 80's Excella going north on Hwy 55. Likely going to Moraine View.

Yesterday at 1 pm I was west bound on I-94 just past the Grass Lake Michigan exit. When I passed the rest stop on the west bound side I first saw a HUGE Airstream with three sets of wheels parked in the semi/camper lot.

Grinning I then noticed that there were at least four more Airstreams of various sizes lined up parked at the rest area. A mini-rally? I rarely see any Airstreams on I-94 so seeing five together was a real treat!

Those Airstreams were probably owned by WBCCI members headed to the International Rally in Madison, WI. The official start-date is only a week away.

Met 2 Airstreams going west on I-74 Sunday morning, about 9:00 am near the Indiana-Illinois line. Then met 2 more going north on I-57 south of Champaign, IL, Sunday evening about 7 pm. Probably going to the International.

Spotted a 1950's something Airstream, couldn't get close enough to tell as it was going away from us. Several front panels, about 24' or so, at the Petro turnoff in Joplin, headed south on 86 highway. Towed by a red pickup.

Saw a smaller vintage A/S northbound on Rt 16 in Ossipee, NH at 5 p.m. on last Thursday. Towed by a blue and white vintage jeep or suburban - red numbers in back window were 10776 - I think. I expect they were headed for the vintage rally in N. Conway which was last weekend. Hope those folks had fun in the rain.
