We always flash (the headlights, mind you) on-coming Airstreams...if we see them in time...and most of the time they respond (if it's not an interstate situation) with with a wave or the lights...it's fun to make that connection fellow Airsteamers! Makes us smile and glad we tow an AS.

Amongst the air-cooled VW set, not waving is just bad form. The same used to hold true for motorcyclists, but it's hit or miss these days.

Airstreams at Roaring River State Park

We just got back from 4 days at Roaring River State Park, and there were 2 Airstreams there, one was a vintage Excella with Texas plates at campground 1, but the owners were nowhere about when we walked by it. The second was a 1972 29-ft International owned by a nice retired couple from Joplin, Mo (same as us, but we didn't know them previously) who were the hosts of campground 1, Frank and Ruth Root. A Casita was making itself at home in campground 3, cute little thing. Kind of looks like a baby Argosy.

Late '80s Limited 31 or 34 footer(Couldn't see the axles for the center divider) with the woodgrain center stripe being towed by an older Suburban heading down I-20 West through Columbia, SC at about 1:30 today.

Northbound I-190 at the Peace Bridge, Buffalo N.Y. approx. 1:30pm.
Probably headed to Niagara Falls. Older un-polished Excella? Dark colored P/U.

Yesterday afternoon, we saw a 70's Airstream in the 25-foot range, being pulled by a white box van in downtown Glencoe, Illinois. Lookin good!

Over the weekend we stayed as guest at Thousand Trails in Orlando, FL and there was an older Avion and a mid-length blue stripe Excella. We never as the owners of either so we didn't go by.

Avion

This may have been mentioned in a post I missed.

There is a 10 m (32 ft.) Avion with a for sale sign on it on Hwy 51 just past the I 94 exit. I drove around it and it looked okay from a very casual perspective. I go past it once or twice a week, I first noticed it this spring, but I have no real idea of how long it has been parked there before I noticed it. I thought it was an older model of Airstream (from the highway).

Driving north on rt. 89 in the town of Romulus (my hometown) and I see a single axle 60's airstream pulled by a ford truck. Made my day!

Saw this one behind the fence in Spokane while taking a shortcut to the Spokane Indians game the other day.

I want to add a couple of comments here, and I am not trying to mean or short or anything, but here it goes;
1) Waving at an AS- I think everybody is too hung up on this waving thing, first at that kind of distance who in the world can see something 6-8 inches in size, and given the fact that you are passing each other at 60-65 mph you only have a few seconds to respond and if the person happens to site seeing then they are most likely not going to see ya until the last second anyways. I ride a motorcycle and we have the low wave, and I dont wait to see if they wave at me first because maybe thier attention is on something, I just wave anyways if I see them comming regardless if they wave or not. I think it is called curtesy.
2) lost m train of thought, will edit this when it comes to mind.

We in the old, air-cooled Volkswagen fraternity wave to each other as we pass and we do see each other wave. No reason for it to be any different when pulling an Airstream. Of course it's a rare thing for an old VW to be travelling 65 miles per hour.

The wife and I always make a point of flashing lights and waving.
It makes us feel good to be part of such a wonderful fraternity.
If the oncoming people see us and return the favor, it makes it even better, since we get to share our good karma – thanks – potato – whatever!

Do you flash lights and wave even if you are not towing? I usually don't because I just feel silly and look strange

long long trailer!

My sister and brother in law, who fulltime at Paradise Valley at Roaring River State Park, reported an over-30' highly polished Airstream moving into their campground this week, towed by a Dodge truck. They haven't met the owners yet.

I've only seen one coming at us on a secondary road which was on Rt. 2 up in NW MA..a really nice scenic route. I gave them a thumbs up and we got a wave back...we were not towing. I saw a lot on the MA pike last year, almost one everytime we were on it but found it hard to make contact....count so far this year is at "0"...plenty of white boxes though.

Spotted newer body style Toyota Tundra pulling newer AS I-40 west of Nashville on the east bound side 6/27. Pulled over for the night at Good Sams Campground in East Memphis and saw vintage 13 panel Avion, looked like it hadnt moved for some time and also 76 model Excella, met the owner who's replacing the cabinets as I type.

We were sitting in the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk Ohio , Sunday at about 16:00, watching the NHRA race. Ohio 20 can be seen from the stands. Now I'm guessing at the ages here, I haven't nearly the expertise of many of the contributers to the Forums, what looked to be a 60 's 16-17 ft Bambi. then about 5 minutes later a 19-20 footer being pulled by a brilliant yellow suburban rolled by. ps, we were cold and wet but the drags were great!
