I-90 heading north and just south of Bellingham, WA, we passed an Airstream Classic behind a silver Dodge pickup this afternoon about 1:00 PM. No numbers on it. Arizona plates on the trailer. Really nice looking set up. I was with a couple who had just purchased an Airstream and it really set the day off to see one actually being towed down the highway.

This morning at 9:30 Brad and I were headed southbound on I-530 between Little Rock and Pine Bluff to go bike riding (we can't ride on our gravel road). We saw a nice Excella? (it had the big blue stripe) trailer towed by a dark blue extended-cab pickup (Chevy or GMC?) headed north. There didn't appear to be any WBCCI numbers (at least on the front) and the highway is divided by a wide median so no chance of my seeing the plate. Anyone here know this rig?

Monday, June 4, parked in the WalMart in Bellingham, WA very early in the morning, it looked like a 27' trailer spending the night. I missed the tv as we were just about past when I spied the unit. We were on a rescue mission - our friends bought a '52 FC - but he'll tell you when he signs on (finally).

Spotted a Sovreighn(sp?) with an Air sticker on it at C&G in Bellflower. There were also a bazillion other Airstreams there from the '50s to brand new.

THREE (plus one) sightings on a quick trip

We sold our SOB last week and delivered it to the proud new owners near Alexandria, Louisiana yesterday. On the way we saw THREE Airstreams and one Silver Streak-type trailer. Not bad for an approximately 500-mile round trip!

This was on AR Hwy 425 in Monticello. Apparently the folks live there, right next to the highway and he was pulling in from the back side of his yard, since we saw it parked parallel to the highway on his driveway on the way back. It looks like his WB# is 24382, but they were very worn.

This one was in an RV park on LA Hwy 165 just south of Bastrop. I am lucky I got even this good of a shot of it!

This was LA Hwy 165 south of Richwood. Brad spotted it and I was quick enough to get it. It was way off the road (I got a good crop on the original picture).

We also saw a Silver Streak-type trailer parked at a business off of LA Hwy 165 but were not able to get a picture.

And, of course, when you go to Louisisana, you must have crawfish. Just not necessarily on a trailer at the side of the road (although you can buy them like that in season!)...

We did take time in our whirlwind turn-around to eat at Cajun Landing in Alexandria. I am not about to go to Louisiana without having some good cajun food!

We are now an Airstream-only family (unless I win the lotto between now and then and buy that cool Silver Streak MH on eBay...!)!!!

Long Distance Sighting

This photo is from May 19, about 3 weeks ago. We were on top Lookout Mountain at the Flight Park watching the hang gliders. The landing strip lies below near Trenton, GA. While a couple dozen folks are admiring the graceful flight of 9 or so gliders above, I'm looking to vally and blurt out, "LOOK, there's an AIRSTREAM!"

Check the fourth cabin from the left along the back of the landing strip. The glint of rounded aluminum from behind the cabin was unmistakeable. It looked like a later model, maybe a 20+ foot Safari. My binolculars comfirmed it. It was definitely an Airstream.

I'm the same way.On several trips with the family I will get a glimpse for a split second of an Airstream in an obscure area.A lot of times we will investigate and the glimpse will be confirmed. It won't be the first time I've heard,'How did you ever see that?'
It seems to be natural for us bitten by the Aluminitis bug.You know who you are.

Wow, you ARE good! My late mother-in-law, a war bride from Scotland, would have said you have eyes like a giblet.

I've been blessed with the long distance sight of my Dad's eyes. But I've got to ask . . . what's a giblet? I thought that was the extra stuff that came with a turkey.

You know, I don't have a clue what a giblet is either, other than a food item. I will need to ask my wife that question and hopefully she, at some time in the past, asked her mom. It was one of her favorite sayings. She was a real sweetheart with all these unusual Scottish sayings that would kick us off into laughter.

I'll check and let you know. Hopefully it's not that you have eyes like the guts of a turkey .

How funny! I love family sayings.

I think the proper word is actually "gimlet:"

gim·let
–noun 1.a small tool for boring holes, consisting of a shaft with a pointed screw at one end and a handle perpendicular to the shaft at the other. 2.a cocktail made with gin or vodka, sweetened lime juice, and sometimes soda water. –verb (used with object) 3.to pierce with or as if with a gimlet. 4.Also, gim·blet Nautical. to rotate (a suspended anchor) to a desired position. –adjective 5.able to penetrate or bore through.

tr.v. gim·let·ed, gim·let·ing, gim·lets
To penetrate with or as if with a gimlet.

adj. Having a penetrating or piercing quality: gimlet eyes.

Just FYI!

Yeah, you have it. Gimlet. I asked my wife and she split a gut when I said giblet. Oops! I suspect the late mother in law is having a giggle up there somewhere as well. Oh well, I tried...

Gimlet~ penetrating eyes, etc., I'll take it! Better than turkey inards. What a hoot. Family sayings are definitely one of those bits we remember with fondness. My wonderful Grandpa had quite a few himself.

And now, back to sighting Airstreams . . .
