Record number of sightings for us!

We are almost back home after 9 days on the lower Colorado River north of Parker at Buckskin Mt State Park...we are now in Picacho Peak State Park betweeb Phx and Tucosn for a few days...this was a record trip for us in terms AS sightings...we have seen a total of 23 AStreams...on the way out of Tucson 27 Dec we saw our first going east on I-10...a 25-30 foot...between Gila Bend and I-10 on 85 we saw 2 Mohos headed south (not sure of models)...both waved and flashed lights...that was fun...thought perhaps they were on thier ways to the 4CU rally at Picacho (?)...then we saw several on I-10 going east toward Quartzsite. In Quartzsite we saw a number parked in various imformal places (if you know Quartzsite you know what I mean)...then in Buckskin there was a 1960 Land Yacht all polished up (pics 1 & 2 below) from British Columbia...I chatted with the owner..he's not a forum member but had been here when he was restoring his LY...he was too busy polishing to really stop and chat... They were there our whole stay...then one day a new 17' Sport came into the park from CA...but they were only there one night and we never saw them, so they were spared being accosted by my enthusiasm. We drove up to the River Island Unit of Buckskin and found an older Bambi...then at Cattail Cove State Park and there was a 34' parked there...nobody around...again. While driving up to Lake Havasu City (without our AS in tow) we were being followed by one...Greg got a pic out the back window of the truck...we made a stop...then we saw them 2 more times...once stopped in LHCity...and again heading north out of LHCity...(pics 3 & 4 below)... We finally lost track of sighting details, but we didn't lose track of the count... On our way to Picacho today we say a vintage Land Yacht (?) going north over an overpass on which we were going south in Gila Bend...then when we got to Picacho we were tickled to find an AS here...a newer 25 or 27' in another loop... We have not talked to the owners (yet) but we are thinking maybe they are still here after the 4CU rally held here over New Year's...(?). Speaking of which, when we checked in at the ranger station the little German lady volunteer on duty told us we "just missed a bunch of Airstreams earlier this week"... that was cute. She was so pleased with herself. We told her we knew they were here and were sorry we had to miss the event...(Hope you all had fun!)

I love seeing AStreams on the road! 23! Who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Looks like they have it all fenced in so it can't go play with the other Airstreams.

We are taking a long weekend for MLK at Gilbert Ray Campground (of the Tucson Mountain Park...Pima County operated) on the west side of the Tucson Mountains (which border the west side of Tucson)...great campground, by the way...

Anyway...we went to find the site we wanted and were headed back to the registration office to register, and as we got there, another Airstream was pulling in...and what made it more fun is that his is a 2006 19' Bambi! (Ours is a Safari SE and his is an International). We complimented each other appropriately on our respective trailers and good taste as we registered... he ended up in the same loop as us, but on the other side...people must think they are seeing double! He stopped by once we were all set up...nice guy from South Carolina... traveling solo about the US birding and seeing the sights. He's been in CA and is now meandering back to the east, taking in several SoAZ areas on the way, and headed toward Texas. We are going to recommend that he make a trip up to Bosque del Apache near Socorro, NM on his way, since he's an avid birder. We exchanged techincal stuff re our Airstreams and such...furnace issues in the recent cold spell, solar panels, betteries...you know...the usual stuff. He said he had joined a SOCal unit of the WBCCI, and had heard of the 4CU and said it sounded like an interesting bunch (we concurred)...but had not heard of the Airforums, so we gave him all the info to find us...hopefully, he'll check us out and join up. He doesn't have everyday internet connection, but stops in at libraries, etc. to do his surfing...

It was a nice start to what looks to be a very nice weekend out...

It's going to be a cold one tonight, keep warm.
The 4CU had a rally at Gilbert Ray on April Fools Day weekend last year. We enjoyed the desert setting very much. We took most of "C" loop if I remember correctly. No campfires, but we had a couple of "fire dancers" which are propane campfires.

I like the view of Kitt Peak to the west. I still need to drive up to the peak some day.

I passed Yogi Bear's Jellystone RV Park today on the way to Camping World. I spotted a 25' or so Airstream checking in.

ON EDIT: Hey! I just noticed that pictures 6 and 7 are two different rigs, albeit the same model. Were all of those photos taken at the same place?
Yes GP, This person has two dbl decker busses slowly dying in the yard.

Let me know and I'll zip down and pick it up.

Thanks, Richard... yes, it was chilly...29 Friday night and 31 Saturday night...one more night to enjoy here...it is such a nice campground in a particularly beautiful desert...we had forgotten just how nice...if only they allowed ground fires it would be perfect!

We have a new Airstream friend in the Streamer from North Carolina (I mistakenly said South Carolina before)... We saw him coming across the middle of the loop this afternoon with a towel on his head...he had fallen and skinned the top of his head and needed us to look at it for him and administer first aid...he's fine...a bad scrape for sure, but nothing that will require stitches...we cleaned it up and applied some neosporin...poor guy...he felt so bad about falling... Just glad we were there to help out... Anyway, he joined us later for wine and cheese and got to know him a bit better...he's headed to Oasis RV tomorrow morning for some minor warranty work...we exchanged emails and hopefully he'll check out the forums...hope to meet up with him again somehwere down the road...

Nice weekend here...

Excella in Bloomington, IL

Just saw an Excella WBCCI #18253 heading west on Veteran's Parkway in Bloomington, IL. It caught us by surprise so we didn't quite see the TV. Think it was a black or dark colored truck -- of some sort. It was about 12:30 in the afternoon. So much fun to see the AS's.

Found this today in a little town called Tryon, Oklahoma. Not a bad quality paint job. I thought it was an Argosy, but after looking at it for a while, I think it's an older Airstream. Can't really tell what year it is. It's flying a rebel flag on the front.

There is an Airstream Mercedes/Sprinter in my hotel parking lot here in Port Hueneme California. I have photos but have to go out in the rain for the adaptor for my camera card and it will have to wait.

What was that about it never rains in Southern California??????

Saw a Basecamp in a commercial for spotting scopes on the Outdoor Channel. It was being towed by a 2 ton truck with a service body.

Found this one pretty close to home.

This little beauty is a 1963 Globetrotter- that was hiding only 10 miles from our home! We spoke to her owner (who is using her for a fishing cabin ) and he might be willing to let her go . So we are going to keep a close eye on her.
