About 4 pm, eastbound I 70, approaching Indianapolis, an Excella 30 ft. Saw it too late to get a good look for WBCCI....

I forgot - coming home from a rally Sunday, around noon, we saw a vintage Airstream on US 50 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near the Kent Island Narrows bridge if memory serves, heading east. My wife said there was an advertisement on the side of it, but we don't remember what it was.

We were in the Eastern Maryland Shore area and think you may have seen Aceflys on Sunday, except they don't have any advertisement on the side of their Caravel. We saw one additional AS at Assateague State Park in addition to theirs and ours. We also saw a blue stripe on Thursday 6/19 on I-81 near the intersection with I-70. We flashed the lights and waved, but may have been too late.

"More modern?" Airstreams are still being made. The vintage and classic models are just as distinguished as the new ones. Of the hundreds of travel trailer brands in existence when Airstream started, only Airstream is still here. Many post war companies likewise are gone. One look at an Airstream, you know it is an Airstream. You can look twenty times at any other brand, and not know what it is. Airstreams were, and continue to be, built to last.

At West Glacier KOA, there are 5 Airstreams, including us. 1 Bambi, 2 Internationals, 1 Classic, and 1 Interstate. That's a new world record for us, in terms of sightings.

montez7ci,

Welcome to the forums, and good luck in your hunt for a motor home that works for you. The Airstream "fixation" is probably different for every Airstreamer. I think there's a certain comradeship among Airstream owners. Airstreams are a little less prevalent than the boxes and easily distinguished. If you ride a motorcycle or have ever noticed the low casual left hand wave bikers give one another, this is similar. This thread was started some 4476 posts ago when someone spotted a couple of Airstreams in a storage lot. Now it's kind of a way to let folks know they were seen somewhere on their outing or journey. It's a thread to say they've been spotted or to see if you've been spotted.

What makes 'em better is really up to you. As an example, we're pulling around a trailer that turned 50 years old this year. It's far from perfect, but it very reliable and it's fun to use. On occasion, someone will pull into a site next to us in a beautiful new tandem axle pusher or other impressive unit, level their rig and come over and ask to tour our little trailer.

I think you'll find the forums helpful as you search for what you want. Someone has probably asked the questions you're thinking about, or has had a positive or negative experience that could help you choose. If you ultimately choose an Airstream, then the forums is a great source of knowledge when something breaks, wears out, or you want to change something. We hope you enjoy the search and then, far more, enjoy using your motor home for many years to come.

East Glacier KOA Airstreams

The Saint Mary KOA on the east side of Glacier also had 5 Airstreams. Here's one.

Believe it was Tues 6/24 we were towing our Sport 16 (w/gray Honda Ridgeline) from Devil's Tower, WY to Wall, SD on I-90. Then on Wed 6/25 toward Murdo, before we went south off I-90. In that space of time we saw probably a dozen Airstreams headed west on I-90. It was sporadic, they weren't all together. Was the most I'd seen in such a short time since getting ours less than a yr ago.
