When we completed our last vacation (don't get too many) our last stop
back from our Arizona trip was Calico ghost town out near needles CA.
they had 3 airstreams that were being stored or used at the ghost town
near the campsites .although I did get a good look ,I was hesitant to knock
on the door and disturb anyone ,but they were cool !!

Land o' Trailers

We're in beautiful Baja CA and have run across quite an assortment of Argosys, Internationals, and a couple of unknowns. Also a Silver Streak or two.

Thanks Dave, we will. Knock on wood, we've never had a problem down here. There were a couple of other old timers that we saw but they were too far from the road to get a good shot. I guess I'll have to start lobbying for a telephoto lens. Ron

Wow....

.....I want the Green one! How cool is that....right down to the $ sign in the front window. My guess is it is for sale but if you have to ask for the price then you really can't afford it! Then again if you were to inquire about it who would go down to inspect it now since you now must have a passport to return to the U.S. Ed

I've been passing it for the past 3 years on trips down here, but never thought to take a picture before. The $ sign does mean that it is for sale. I can check it out anytime you want. Ron

NEW Sprinter in NM today

Hello all -

Saw that familiar outline on the road today. Sure enough... AirStream. Just not what I expected from 1 mile or so....

As I got closer.... Nope!, rear window outline is too big... Has that familiar look....

BRAND NEW Sprinter!!! Still had the temp. plate - Illinois. Lady with dark hair at the wheel. NO WBCCI #'s or any other ID.

Pulled in front of her and showed off the AirStream bumper step, the AIR sticker, but no flash of the lights or other sign she saw what I was showing off.... Sigh.... Loved the look of her rig - definately NOT like every other camper.

New Owner!!! She'll learn!!! Long live the ASF's!!!!!!!

Yeah I know you are already there!

Ron, If you get a chance to stop on your way back please see if you can get the length/condition and price info for me. I may be very interested in it if it looks good up close. Also is it in Mexico or So. Cal? Ed

More Sightings

Ed: I sent you a PM re: the little green one. Coming back from Baja today we spotted a couple more AS. Near Palm Desert and So. bound on the 10 we saw what must have been at least a 31 footer. Then near Calimesa, also So. bound on the 10 there was an International being towed by what looked like a white Expedition. Since we were Northbound, there was no time to get pictures of either. Ron

In the last picture there is a trailer with an AC sticking out the window. The rear end looks like it is sagging. Is that the tail droop issue I have seen here in the forums?

It seems there are a lot of Airstreams that go to Baja. Do you think that is because of the first caravans Wally led were through Mexico and into South America and the connection stuck? Or do you think it is the ruggedness and durability of the Airstream or the Airstream owner? Do you think it is because the Airstream is better built to handle the roads and conditions than SOB's? Or is it just a coincidence? Do you see an equal proportional amount of SOB's down there?

We left Tallahassee Florida on May 2 for a four month trip to Alaska. This was a great trip for us. We had another unit from home that had headed home earlier.

We are PP, from unit 153, Florida Big Bend Unit

Strange place for an Airstream

There is a Court building in Los Angeles known as Central Civil West. In the underground parking lot is an AS FB Safari. It is used by the guy that runs the Ex fire dept. pumper truck. Bldg has power and water supply "issue" So there is a huge generator wagon and a pumper truck to keep the Bldg working.

Yes, we have courtesy parking for you. About an hour North of Los Angeles.

Towed by WHAT!?!?

In one of the RV Resorts that I service (that's an RV park to anyone outside FL ) , I saw a 3 axle Airstream in a spot, but no tow vehicle present......only the new Dodge magnum sort-of station wagon. Several days later, I noticed this very same Magnum actually TOWING this 30' plus Airstream. OK, it had a HAHA, but really......I can't believe that it was a safe set-up. Especially where the tongue weight and wheel base is concerned!!! I'll try to get some shots next time I'm in there.

We do come across a lot of SOBs down there too. Most are later models. The older ones are usually very thrashed. Ron

Lew,

Check the license plate also, I bet it is Canadian, specifically Ontario.
