Not to mention having a load . . . if that van has front wheel drive, I wouldn't want to be the driver if stopped on a grade with loose gravel . . . the gravel projectiles will spray everywhere with very limited progress . . . I learned that lesson first-hand and my Eldorado and Overlander were level . . . just didn't have enough weight transferred to the front wheels for traction . . .

I am somewhat of a newbie, I see that in the photo the trailer is not level...what will make it level, weight distribution hitch? And.. Is that because that hitch would lift the AS to be level? Thanks sbb

The weight distributing hitch serves a number of purposes:
  • Transferrs a portion of the hitch weight to the front axle of the tow vehicle.
  • Transferrs a portion of the hitch weight back to the the trailer axles.
  • Levels the rear of the tow vehicle/front of the trailer.
The effectiveness of the weight distributing hitch is directly related to the care taken when it is installed to insure that it is set up according to the manufacturer's directions.

Kevin is right about weight distributing hitch and load transfers.. For newbies, sometimes the hitch ball is just too low or too high, and tow vehicle level but trailer isn't... In this case, however, with tow van looking like it is about to launch from a jump ramp (nose high..) it is pretty safe to conclude van overloaded and/or WD hitch not helping...

Four days and 705 miles into our trip we finally saw another Airstream! It was an interstate westbound on I-16 about mile marker 12 east of Macon, GA. I flashed my lights and we all waved.

I16 is a bumpy ride! The inside lane is the smoothest if there is no traffic

Saw our first Airstream since leaving Canopener 30 miles south of Jackson on US 49. Nice polished 70-something Ambassador headed south to warmer weather. Happy travels!

Saw a nice Airstream F150 Combo today on the QEW Fort Erie bound in Niagara Falls.

Made us wish we were headed out in the Safari!

As we departed for our trip to Maui, my husband says "there HAS to be an Airstream on the Island, I'm going to keep a watch for one everywhere. After nearly 3 weeks, we had half forgotten and half given up figuring it was actually pretty unlikely. THEN...we saw one! Riding our bikes in the Upcountry the day before we left. Awesome!

1940 something? What is it?

Now that we have an airstream I am always on the lookout for them. I know where six of them are in our area, its a fun game. Dawn
