I'm betting they either don't know if you're an Airstream fan or just aren't paying attention. We need a special hand signal or something to become a standard greeting for other Airstreamers going by, so they don't think we're just telling them their lights are on! Maybe a little Airstream antenna ball!!

Some time ago it was proposed that we flash our lights twice and wave. I have tried this with no results, too. However, back in the day, flashing your lights twice was a signal to slow down because: 1) there is an accident ahead or some other road hazard that required it; or 2) there is a law enforcement officer ahead with a speed detection device in use, i.e. a speed trap ahead.
These Airstreamers may have misunderstood your intentions and just slowed down to wander five miles down the road...for what?

I'm guilty. Traveling on these lumpy, under construction and terrifying Florida highways, esp. I-4, I'm too scared to take my eyes off my own lane to see other Airstreams. More than once my wife has exclaimed "Did you see that?!?!" and of course I didn't. She saw three AS on I-75 as we headed to Gainesville last weekend - I saw one of them.

My wife never sees them until I point them out to her. I seem to have no problem spotting them on the opposite side of I-75. When we go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at the end of October we will probably see 4-6 on the way back as they head south to Florida for the winter. We will probably see several headed south on our way back from Disney World over New Year's Week End headed down for the remainder of the winter. Seems like those are popular times of the year for folks to head down to Florida for the winter.

Alumatube MH
Spotted today going North on I 5 in the San Fernando Valley in Ca.
An alumatube type MH. I didn't say Airstream cause maybe it was an Argosy as it seemed to be painted a light metalic gray with a burgandy waist band stripe. Very sharp condition and clearly owned by someone who loves it.

Double Sighting!!
I saw this in a lot right across the street from the storage area that inspired this thread. Went inside and asked, the owner is going to restore it someday. He told me about a polishing job going on nearby, so I swung by and caught a picture of that too!!

Someone must know who I saw Tuesday 09/26 in East Tenneesee...Interstate 81 Eastbound..I believe it must have been a 34 footer, but the first Airstream I've ever seen with a set of three vista views in a row (on the road side), and a wrap around (Argossy style) REAR window. VERY COOL... How many of these exist? Is it rare, or do I just not get out enough?
Thanks
Kevin

WE were returning from our trip to Yosemite on 395 in CA. We were heading North and Flashing lights coming the other direction was a vintage Airstream. I got a wave off before they passed us. It was on Tuesday the 26th. A second Hi to who ever it was.

This happened mid-summer but... heading North on 101, middle of Eureka, I saw a perfectly shiny vintage beauty. The license plate was CA (I think) and said, "LILTSTR" (or close to it - Little toaster)
Anyone know who it was? I honked or yelled something (embarassed the kids) and definately could of wrecked just trying to catch-up!

Another "sighting"
While doing our laundry at Housekeeping in Yosemite... parked next to us was this pickup.... the trailer wasn't there, it was at another location in the park. (you might have to click on the photo to enlarge...)
{I am not advertising... am I committing a "sin" here?}
Spoke with the folks and they were very nice!

That is one nice herd. I'd have those beauties behind a chain link & barb wire fence too. Coeur d Alene is in the pan handle of northern Idaho.

Malibu...Two in One Day!
Wow! I was taking some out of state guests around on the you know, Grand Tour? We were driving up Pacific Coast Highway thru Malibu and saw an Airstream Motor Home...parked in the parking lot of a (boo hiss...Motel...) just a few feet from the intersection of Taconga Canyon Rd. Then just up the road a bit, we turned into the parking lot of Paradise Cove and there...right by the gate was a real Vintage Beauty...about 17 or 18 ft, seemed to be well established if not permanently parked by the entrance....I really missed my camera that day!

I agree, I am missing the camera phone I used to have that I broke.
It's come to the kids and I playing "The Airstream Game" during long drives with points for every Airstream spotted and yelled out. Our game is: Airstream (SOB's count as long as they're silver) 1 point, vintage Airstream 2 points, POLISHED vintage Airstream, five points. Someone else in the car has to witness the sighting. There have been some heated arguments and we've turned around once to re-witness and settle the issue. I'm raising a family of Airstream nutcases, I'm proud to say.

This week end we saw a nice Excella headed sougth on I-75 just south of the TN/GA border. Also, we camped at Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee and the camp ground host had a 34' Excella. They had tags from Alabama. They weren't there so I didn't get a chance to meet them.
