Oh - thank dog.... I didn't initially recognize the warm welcome..... But I am learning... neat forum... I recall riding with my grandparents whene I was about 10 and whenever they saw another AS, they'd scramble for the book to look up the numbers.

Hi,
I was afraid to get that kind of initial greeting, [and sales pitch] so I bought a brand new trailer.

I'd take it just for the view and the Airstream...the SOB has got to go. Solar for power, don't know about the water????

Heck, they want $36k for the 3 acre lot behind me, with drainage for the entire village running thru it, which makes half of it unusable, no services to it, just an empty acreage with lots of scrub trees and chunks of concrete that somebody used for fill! And the neighborhood is just average! That one sounds like a bargain!

Hi All, If you ever make it to San Diego Ca. The Miramar Marine Base off the 15 freeway has an rv lot on the east end of the base. You can see it from the 15. Of coarse there are alot of SOB's. It is a new lot and as it began to fill I saw 1 AS, then the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, even an Argosy. One would have to stop to spot them all.

Since Hollywood discovered it (and Bubba got a raise at the truck stop) . Guess you don't know much about the area... used to be the sale of land there was determined on how much they'd pay you to take it off their hands ...

Ever since the hippity-hip of Hollywood & NYC "discovered" it, folks are fetchin' a pretty penny for the land.

Actually, those 'red-neck abodes' are for hunting... real boondockin'.

anybody know what this is?

Spotted this old Airstream near Diamond, Mo. today and stopped to look, it is a a vintage auto sales. No id on it except a small plate that has Airstream, model # 47111, serial #1062, built by Wallace K Byam, Metropolitan Airport, Los Angeles, California. A 1947 Airstream something. Might be for sale, if anybody is interested I have a phone #. Shell looks pretty good, no really major dents but needs some frame work (the tongue is loose from the bottom) and the floor and axles need replaced, and some broken windows. It is full of stuff, and locked, so couldn't really see the inside. Pretty rough tho I think. The owner said he wasn't going to do anything with it for a couple of weeks, he just got it and a 63 tradewind from an estate sale and is waiting on the title transfers. He did tow the '47 home and he said it towed well, in spite of the tongue being loose! Pictures, and one of the Tradewind, which is in pretty rough shape but restorable.

Isadora,
From Fred's Airstream Archives, it looks to be a 47 Airstream Liner 22'. At least the pictures look similar...

400 miles into 455 mile my trip from Surprise, AZ to Durango, Co I spotted an Aistream on HWY 160, near the Ute Casino. Just caught a glimpse but did get the flash of the headlights from the other driver.

Wow I bet that we have some of the pieces to that exact trailer. If it is an 89 or 87 that was stripped out by an RV place in St. Thomas??? We were told that two Airstreams were decked out to become mobile recruitment offices that would be traveling around Canada.

Still have some of the parts - like the cabinet handles with the Airstream engraved in them....somewhere in our masses of parts - which I am sure we will get to unloading over the winter or early spring.....we need to purge as soon as the new gararge is built..

...and here are our sightings from our recent Holiday to the Region 1 Rally and our week before and week after the rally.

First we saw this MOHO patiently waiting service I think along route? along Lake Champlain Vermont.Click image for larger version

Next in one of our days at the Rally in PEI we were off for a tour of North Rustico and found an Argosy sitting non challantly in the backyard...Someone else took a similar photo and focused in on the Trailer - but being the artsy type - I saw it as a background element with the lobster traps defining it's view and possible purpose - to house the extra workers that come in for the season.

Our third sighting was this beauty on Cape Breton Island, on our way up to do the Cabot Trail tour....Click image for larger version

Honorable mention - was this Avion. We thought it ironic that not half an hour before Peter and I were talking about Truck campers and that they have dropped off considerably in the market. And thought them along with the roadtrek style moho's would be great to do the trail with. (oopss yes the Airstream Sprinter too - but I just could not imagine the tippy feeling I would have with a thin and high van) Click image for larger version

And no picture as I was driving - but we saw a late 2000's Safari I think with a bike rack on the back heading East as we were rushing home on Sunday in the Trois River Area of Quebec on Hwy#20 I think or there abouts anyway. Flashed my lights but nothing back and no numbers either - so just another kiss of Airstream down the road....

Someone thought it might be a Curtis Wright, however, a little research into this trailer found that there were only a couple of dozen trailers made with the Wallace M Byam name following his partnership with Curtis Wright--and this one has a label that says Airstream and not Curtis Wright, unlike the picture of the 1947 Liner, which does not have that label. Hope this link works, it explains it. Got to be a pretty rare trailer.
