Airstreams across the Country!

We pulled up alongside of John & Gloria just outside of Hayward, WI and then met them in a grocery parking lot.

And one of the the ancestors of Airstreams...the Sheepherders wagon! If you look closely you can see a solar panel and a satellite dish!

That last trio of photos just plain hurts to look at. WOW I hope nobody was inside at the time.

...just ducky!

I saw this old girl in such a pretty setting, it was disappointing that the owner kept what looked like a pile of junk at his front door.

Or "door with a door", even.

Any ideas as to model and age? I didn't stop, it was in Monroe, MI, in an RV camp.

Darn,
I was just in Monroe, MI last night and didn't see that. Anyway, from the length and window configuration it is a double bed (as opposed to twins) 26' Overlander or maybe a 28' Ambassador. Some details are definitely incorrect to be a 1963 or newer. I am guessing it is a 1962, but it is possibly a little older, maybe 1959 to 1961, but definitely no older than 1959. Other photos, including showing the wheel well shape and other drtails could help narrow it down further.

Saw this little beauty at a Photo Vantage Point in the Blue Ridge Mountains Hwy 515 North of Ellijay, GA - November 3rd around Noon.

I could not see any of the mountains at all so they must have meant the Airstream being the photo op.....

Thanks for the info, Joe. It was at a camp called "Camp Lord Willing". Lots of full-timers, based on how many of the units there had vehicles parked outside, and were skirted.

This weekend I spotted two old Overlanders in Martinsburg, WV, off Rt.9 at a campground called 'Nakeeta". I spied one oldtimer out in the middle of field this sumemr, and no one ever seemed to be around. The full-timers said that they were told that someoene from the highway dept. keeps it there to use durin a big road job. Then a light started appearin at darkevery nite, but no vehicles..hmmm. So this weekend I grabbed my camera and crossed the ~5 acres to investigate ('m brave when there are NO cars LOL)., It was an old International Overlander, looks to be from 63 to 69. The inside is pretty guttednot rotton, but empty except for a folded chair, missing one bunk and the other has no covering on the foam. Looks like hunters used it for drinkng. I got great pics but now my camera won' open..I'll check tonite if the battery is the culprit.

Walking back from sneaking a peek of this one, I spied another only 30 yards from our AS! It was hidden behind a large motor home behnd us, so I never saw it until this rnorning. This one is really older...has the jalosied window beside the door, etc...and man, is she rough...an older woman lives in it and the drapes are literally hanging in threads. Not long after I walked around it she came home, but she scurries straigh insdie and never lingers, so the neighbors don't even know her name. Seems she lives there all thetime.

This was the first time i really took a look at the Overlanders...I have been so absorbed by Excellas since we got ours in July...but those old Overlanders are very interesting abd I like hte shorter length..both of these are kinda short...like a 24-26'..nice size to manuever (I'm appreciating that after driving around the Excella!) Plus, the straight wheel wells and the shape give it a very vintagy look..I'll see if I can post pics later

Ingenuity or Travesty?

Found this one on the city streets of Long Beach, CA. After the shock wore off I got out my camera to share with y'all.

We went to central Florida for Thanksgiving with my mom. On the way down, we saw a Classic with Oklahoma plates in Griffin, GA and an additional five Airstreams northbound on I-75. On the way back, I saw an Argosy motor home and an Argosy trailer southbound on I-75. I also saw two Airstreams in campgrounds adjacent to the interstate on the way back.

Spotted what I think was a 30 footer traveling west bound on I-70 passing the Cabela's exit near Wheeling, WVa about noon. Only got a glimpse, so don't know what the tow vehicle was.

We just got back from a week in the Ft. Walton Beach area. On the way down there last Sunday, we saw a 90's Moho in Dothan, Alabama. This afternoon on the way back passed a late model Excella (I think that's what it was) southbound near Eufala. Anyway, blinked our lights and got a wave back. Sorry I can't give more detail, but it all happened kinda fast.

Anybody we know?

Jim
