Airstream Museum Show St. Louis

There will be a museum show about Airstream trailers in St Louis, MO. from April 23, 2005 to August 20, 2005. Airstreams have been mentioned in other museum shows, but this is the first museum show I'm aware of that is exclusively about Airstreams. Titled "Airstream!:The Architectural History of the Land Yacht", the show traces the innovative design history of the classic streamlined aluminum travel trailer through plans, models, designs, archival photographs, brochures, video, and material samples from the archives of Airstream Corporation and from private collections.

The Airstream show is at the Sheldon Art Galleries in downtown St. Louis. Details, directions and hours can be found on their web site. Information about the Airstream show is half way down the opening page:

http://www.sheldonconcerthall.org/galleries.asp

The other shows also look very tantalizing. The Sheldon Galleries is open limited hours, but it is on the route many will travel from the Western U.S. to the Homecoming Rally in Jackson Center, Ohio. It is also on the route for those coming from the Eastern U.S. to the WBCCI International in Springfield, MO. So if you find yourself in the St. Louis area this Spring or Summer, take or make the time to see this show.

Here is one other tidbit of information:

Special Weekend Event! Airstream Open House
Sunday, July 10, 2005, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The Sheldon's parking lot will be the setting for a festival of music, dancing, food and Airstream trailer tours. The Galleries will also be open. A detailed schedule of events for the day will be available on the Sheldon's website soon.

I'm not sure what or whose trailers will be out since the local WBCCI unit hasn't been contacted about this event.

Cool, we're flying to St Louis sometime this summer to visit friends. Sounds like we'll have to be sure and work that in as well! Thanks for the heads up!

Great!

I'll be in St Louis in early August for my grandson's wedding. I won't miss this one for sure.

Nic Bailey featured too...

Quote: "In recent years, designers have modified interiors to reflect the most contemporary interior design ideas. The interiors of two contemporary designers, Nic Bailey from England and Christopher Deam from San Francisco will also be featured in the exhibition."

I would really like to see the Nic Bailey design in original... His Webpage only gives an idea of it. But I really like what I see.

Kewl!

With the WBCCI Region 8 Rally coming up at the end of this month, at Bill Thomas' place, this will be a natural.
Thanks for the 'heads-up', although sure others will be aware of this presentation, it's neat to know about it before arriving in the St. Louis area.

Has anyone attended this show yet? I was hoping someone might have made this a 'destination' during the drive to International.

I'll be there for the open house Sunday, so I'll let you know if the trip is worthwhile.

Sheldon Arts Center Airstream Show

My wife and I placed our 78 Excella in the show and we had a great time. We heard about the show from the Szabos at the International. They said that Olivia, the coordinator had asked if they would put their trailer in the show. They couldn't but said they were sure she would love to have ours in there. We were planning to be at Scott AFB at that time so we stopped at the Sheldon to offer our trailer for display and they gladly accepted. We had a great time. I guestimate that 500 people went through our unit in six hours. The people who came through were courteous, inquisitive and thanked us for allowing them to visit our home. It was all quite wonderful. We saw Jack Canavera there and talked for awhile.

BTW, our trailer got a Gold Award for the 70's decade trailers at the Springfield International Vintage judging. We were very pleased and surprised.

I saw your trailer at the Region One Rally in Woodstock, CT last year and agree that the award is well deserved. Congrats!

I sure hope anyone from the forums that goes to this Airstream show would sneak a few photos while there... we'd love to see how it was set up, the various models included, etc.
