Angry Airstream keys

Has anyone else experienced a hard time getting spare keys for their A/S? I want a door key set for my wife and a full set to hide on the truck or trailer.

I finally went to the biggest lock shop in Austin. They were fairly easily able to duplicate the dead bolt key. The door key was another story. They didn't have the same door key blank, so they used a different maker's blank. The keys looked all right, but they don't work the lock.

Do we have to order spare keys or key blanks from Airstream?

I had no trouble getting keys duped for my Airstream at a local locksmith. Don't know what the keys are like for the newer ones.

Keys

Most of the places I checked had blanks from the maker of the door key, but with a very slightly differenct slot pattern.

I guess this is good in a way, because no one out there is likely to have a key that fits my door. Bad side is that even in a city the size of Austin, there isn't a suitable key blank to be had to make a spare key.

Guess I'll call Airstream Monday since I definitely want spare keys.

I have an answer to key problem

Per e-mail from Airstream, you have to order keys through the dealer. This is not a key blank available to key shops.

This applies to my 2003 International. I don't know what other AS years/models this would be true for.

Smile Success

The dealer called today and they have two key blanks for me. They had them in stock and didn't know it. I'll stop by on the way to the Camping World 15%-off sale tomorrow.

Solution in hand

I picked up the key blanks at the dealer this morning. Turns out that all recent Airstreams use the same door key blank, "TRI/MARK MS600". This gets written in my manual for future reference.

John - you mention your dealer & a sale. Are you referring to Camper Clinic II there in Buda, which is where I bought my Safari? I need a couple of extra door keys also, thus need the blanks.

Camper Clinic in Buda

Yes, CC in Buda is where I bought my International.

They have lots of key blanks. The tech told me that all recent Airstreams use the TRI/MARK MS600 blank. About $3 per blank.

The dead bolt uses a different blank that I had been already able to get at Cothran's Lock shop. Camper Clinic has that blank available, also.

I'm on my way right now to Cothran's to get the blanks cut. They owe me for a couple of keys they made that didn't work because of the wrong blank. I'll call it even if they cut these keys for me.

Locksmith had key blanks, no problem

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to clear something up...

Airstream dealers are not the only source for these key blanks. I went to a local locksmith (Curly's in Vancouver, WA, USA) and they had blanks for all the keys including both door keys. The copy they made works great.

However, as many people have stated here, most smaller shops don't have them, and certainly you won't find them at a chain hardware store, so for some it may still be simpler to go to the dealer.

Hide the keys in the water heater compartment. Nobody will ever find them there! ha ha.

How about a magnetic holder to attach to the aluminum!

Or better yet, hide 'em behind the gate of your black tank valve. They'll NEVER look there.

TriMark keys

I was able to obtain the door key directly from TriMark. I simply gave them the number from the lock set and they sent me two precut keys. They worked like a charm. The number on the lock identifies the key. I needed the key because I locked both sets in the trailer. They overnighted the keys. I was very happy with their response. You can find them on the web at www.trimarkcorp.com.

Uuuuhhhh... Yeah.... Sure. Magnetic aluminum. Got it...
Seriously, it might not be a bad idea to hide the keys in a magnetic holder, and put the holder under the steel bracket under the LP tanks.

Keys.........doh.....like homer might say. Ya lose em and then find em. Negotiable thing when a thief finds em I'm sure.. I was trading out my tires, getting rid of split rims the other day on my 'Wind and I found some sitting in a magnetic holder on frame above wheels. Had to have been there some time for they are nothing like the keys that now lock it, although they are the same blank. Thinking of that incident I wondered....does anyone know whether these old stainless 'Moons that I have are worth anything? They don't fit my new rims and I would like to get a good price on them else I will have to e-bay them.
