Airstream Bike Rack Installation

Has anyone assembled and installed the Airstream Bike Rack? I have a 25' 2014 FC and want a bike rack for my bike and my wife's bike. Is it difficult to do yourself?

The instructions that come with the rack are terrible. Between the you tube video and instructions I was able to install the Fiamma on my 07 25' International CCD in about 2 hrs.

Most of the instructions are pictures. I just took time to see it all in my minds eye and like an erector set it came together. I did have to take the top off my rear bumper cover and have a local machine shop and trim 1/2 inch off. no issues its great!

I just shimmed out with washers to make it fit around the cover.

Other than trying to figure out exact locations from the provided instructions (which have a lot to be desired), I thought the video was better. I also added two fender washers to each bolt on each side of the bumper. I spread the install out over a few days. The hardest part was drilling the holes into the skin...

Oh, they no longer provide the 4 screws/bolts that hold the upper brackets to the skin, and the instructions don't tell you either. Tim tells you the size in the video

Good luck...

Installed ours this weekend. Had the same overlap problem, thought about washers but that felt unstable. Just ground/cut off a section. Pictures here.

Great information in this thread, as I will be buying a bike rack over the winter. Question, did you guys need any special tools or did you need to rivet any of the parts to the AS?

On my 2014, I did not have to trim the lid for the bumper tray. It fit perfectly. No rivets are needed. You will need to get some screws to attach the upper arms to the back of the trailer. The only tools you need are some wrenches, a screwdriver and a drill.

Really enjoyed your site and the Talking Heads video in the "It Has Begun" post from August.

Inspirational!

Thanks, and good luck on your new adventure.
