Yes, a "nomadic gallery, I like that too.

I build high-fire stoneware bonsai pots, and I was surfing the net when I found this site.

I'm thinking I might make a "Airstream-shaped" bonsai pot.

here's my latest pot. not fired yet.

Here's another pottery that uses an Airstream as a gallery.

Thumbs up Airstream Art Gallery

So, here I am a newby to the forum, and what do I find (other than tons of great advice)...Alleghany's Art-Stream...I love it!

Speaking from first had experience, I can say, Alleghany's Nomadic gallery is really a great thing. Janice Jakielski (my wife) was one of the artists that went on tour with him last year. Before his 2005 tour the three of spent many hours washing, riveting and packing all that artwork for the road. It was a lot of work, but it inspired me to make one of my own...

I am glass artist, and I just bought a 1971 TradeWind. I am going to be touring the Midwest this summer. I don't have a lot of pictures of the airstream yet (I just started the renovations) but please check it out.

I am planning on being here a lot, posting pictures, and asking how to do things…

Joshua -- Thanks for sharing your site! The mobile gallery is a great idea.

Are there any artists out there using Airstreams as mobile studios? Any Airstreams outfitted for workspace on the road?

I don't know of any mobile pottery studios off hand. The Corning Museum in NY built and amazing mobile hot glass studio a few years ago. (not in an airstream)

Another is "Aunt Gladys"

http://www.siu.edu/~siuglass/gladys.html

I would like to build one someday. I have got my hands my full right now though. A glass furnace can weigh ~1000lbs. I am not sure the Airstreams could take that...If I used fiber insulaton instead of bricks...

Well, We don't use the Airstream as a studio, but we will be towing it to art fairs this summer. Somewhere I had this epiphiny that an RV would be less expensive than moteling it all over the western states doing the fairs!!!!
I suppose I could've bought the motel!! We, wife and I, have been doing clay and photography for the last 35+ years. Look for the 22' ccd with the KERAMOS license plate( ceramics in Greek).
Cheers, Jeff

The Artstream

If anyone wants to see the aforementioned Artstream, it makes pretty regular appearances in Aspen, CO at the farmer's market. Of course, in Aspen, it's more like the "Boutique Store Market"... It's pretty interesting- mostly gutted with shelving made for pottery displays. The guy that owns it is pretty good about humoring the people that want to talk about the Airstream and not the pottery.
