it's not a pan am.

doesn't look like a pan am, not if one LOOKS closely.

my understanding is the PANam has been panned 4 now.

a/s is doing a production RUN of 25 of these normal classic 34 footers.

it's the typical classic limited and traditional layout,

they've made for the last 4-5 years.

again they're planning to build 25 of these,

2-3 are on the assembly line right now.

so it's great to see they haven't abandoned the 34 (many of us knew we'd see them again)

but it's a shame they didn't take the opportunity to TWEAK the interior design, materials or floor plan.

the 1 in the o.p. is a 50 amp unit with 2 air conditioners.

cheers

34's

Mouse fur - only on the Flying Clouds. Vinyl interior is found on the classics. Even the Classics have deleted the vinyl around the stove area - grease and heat are the enemy of vinyl.

The aluminum of the CCD looks nice, but in a bedroom you might want vinyl or mouse fur at least up to the bottom of the windows. It gets COLD when your butt hits the aluminum in December.

the 34s have had naked aluminum in the galley/behind the stove and sink and microwave for 6 years or so.

my 05 is done that way.

the new ones STILL have mouse fur (OZITE) on the walls in the bedroom and living area.

it's not obvious because it's behind LOTS of curtains and window treatments...

but it's there, i watched them hang FUR in a 34 monday.

the ceilings ((and upper walls/around the curve)) are foam backed vinyl EXACTLY as done for 10+ years.

these are NOT new interior treatments.

there are some minor changes,

like NOT using marinco brand external plugs and no disc brakes and new floor vinyl...

cheers

Would it be possible to order a 34' with CCD interior, or something other than Classic? Ugh.

Also, why would they move away from disc brakes?

disk brakes

What...they are not using disk brakes on that new 34'?? Golly, talking about saving some bucks..

I would also have to agree that deleting the Marinco plug is a bad idea as this item is truly a marine grade fixture, will last along time.

Guess they gotta save some bucks somewhere.

they dc'd disc brakes on the ASSEMBLY line last year.

the service center STILL installs discs as an AFTER production upgrade.

they are using the dexter parts for these upgrades IN the service center.

they are STILL using 30 amp and 50 amp twist lock weather proof connections...

just a different brand, i 4got the name, sorta a euro, EYEtalian sorta word...

the plug cover/enclosure is smoother, has a more modern look, but it's the same connection style.

cheers

Came across this ad copy today on RVTrader while browsing:

2011 AIRSTREAM CLASSIC LIMITED 34
About a year ago, George M Sutton had a lengthy discussion with one of Airstream's senior convoy drivers. The driver told how he was able to make it across America in all kinds of conditions. He told how all Airstream units tow beautifully, but his favorite was the triple axle Classic. It was his suggestion that George ask Airstream to re-release a limited run. After much consideration and discussion with other dealers, Airstream agreed to build "25".

Yes, they are a long, long trailer, but with triple torsion axles nothing compares! Smooth, well-balanced, 50% of the weight is under the floor, and the aerodynamic shape all make it the ultimate travel trailer on earth! Airstream agreed to produce 25, of these special units, this particular model is lucky #11. There are 54 dealers, so not everyone will have one. We ordered two, sold the first ( #7 ) and now invite you to buy the second, #11!

I think I'm going to outfit a nice fancy two-axle KW tractor, convert the front of a shiny new '34' with a 5th wheel pin, then mount a ball on the rear bumper so I can attach another shiny '34' to follow the 'train' down the interstate....

We'll be 'stylin' down the road with our new set of 'doubles'...only downside I can see is that we'll have to 'rent' two stalls everywhere we stop!

If runnin' one '34' is cooool, two can only be twice as cooool!

Ray

PS...has anyone seen my winning Lottery ticket?

Dont think your dream can come true any time soon. The limit on doubles is two 27 ftrs. plus the tongue between the two trailers and the tractor or TV. Not sure what the western states are doing Triples I think but here its only doubles. I think they are pulling 2 /53's on the TP and toll road . NOT SURE I AINT BEEN OUT THERE FER a WHILE.
Really dont care nuffin about big rigs anymore 45 yrs was enough.

Mike, you are of course correct about the 'length' of the 'train' here in the USA...

I guess I'll have to move over to the Aussie Outback and run some of those long stretches they allow those long 'trains' to operate...

Anyone know where I can get a 'Roo Bar' to protect the front end...Drat, I'll have to move the steering wheel across the cab, as well...eh, mate...
