Airstream 101

My wife and I are veteran trailer campers who plan to upgrade our accommodations in the near future. We are, however, Airstream newbies. Because we routinely camp in remote locations, we want a small, maneuverable model like the Bambi or 22 foot International. A good, clean used unit is a possibility as well.

Unfortunately, despite living in the center of RV manufacturing (northeast Indiana), I cannot find an Airstream dealer with any small units. Moreover, I cannot seem to get a straight answer on what the MSRP is for these models. My experience suggests that a motivated RV dealer will discount as much as 20 percent from MSRP. I assume the same is true for Airstreams

Can any of you experienced Airstreamers suggest a trustworthy dealer? We are willing to travel if the price is fair. Also, is there an independent means of finding out the MSRP? Without that there is no way of determining if you got a good deal or not.

Finally, any other advice for first time Airstream buyers is appreciated.

Thanks for the help.
Don

Try Kenny Adams at Paul Sherry RV they usually have a big inventory. His website is www.airstreamrv.com I can't vouch for his trustworthyness.

You can also call the Airstream factory for an options and spec sheet for each model the gives the MSRP. Go to www.airstream.com for contact info.

Don,
As you live in northern Indiana I suggest you contact Woodland Travel Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have been buing parts from them for 23 years now and bought my 96 from them. They are RV'ers and use A/S trailers. They have a good inventory and are very competitive on price. They were the best price when I bought mine in 96. They have been A/S dealers for 35 or 40 years.

Talk to Craig Carlson (manager and son of the owner) at 1-800-968-8688 he will send you option and list price info and will quote you a price when you decide what you want. They also have a web site http://www.woodtravel.com/

Airstream 101

Greetings Don!

It would be a bit of a drive for you, but I can highly recommend the Airstream dealer with whom I have done business for the past eight years. Ace Fogdall RV is located in Cedar Falls, Iowa on University Avenue. They have an excellent service and parts department and their sales staff is very professional.

I was just at the dealership yesterday. They are a multi-line dealer and don't stock a large number of Airstreams - - they had two new rigs on the lot - - a 22' CCD and a 25' Safari - - only one used rig was on the lot - - a 1979 International 31'. I am certain that they would be happy to order a new unit to your specifications.

Their web site can be found at:

Ace Fogdall RV, Cedar Falls, IA

Good luck with your search!

Kevin

That is so funny. We are such a small community! Just had another forum member tell me all about those two units at that particular dealership!

I suspect that part of the reason that Ace Fogdall has a modest selection of new Airstreams is their impending move to a new location (slated for early Winter). Their move will only be a few miles, but will be much handier for those traveling in from any distance. Their new facility will be located at the intersection of US Highway 20 and State Route 58 on the outskirts of Cedar Falls, IA. Ace Fogdall's annual Spring Open House was combined with ground breaking for their new facility - - it will be a state-of-the-art factility (the architects drawings are quite impressive).

I e-mailed Airstream directly and asked for a travel trailer brochure. The link is on the Airstream Web site. They mailed me a brochure along with an additional sheet listing MSRPs for all of the trailers as well as option prices.
