The Agony Of The Hunt

So I am finally trying to transition from an airstreamer wannabee to a bonafide vintage airstream owner. My heartache comes in the hunt. Either I'm getting my hopes up when I see an ad (less pics) only to be really disappointed when it is much less of a vehicle than I had hoped, or I'm a johnny-come-lately when I find the perfect treasure. Anyone else out there suffer this fate while hunting for their first Airstream?

My latest let down was a really clean 1964 Safari I found on Craigslist in Portland. I emailed the owner three times only to hear back late yesterday that it had just sold... The real pain - was it sold for only $2K. I was devastated! My wife was supportive and understanding, but I hate putting her through my rollercoaster of emotion.

I remain cautiously optimistic that I will find that vintage Airstream out there with my name on it.... I just hope it is sooner rather than later, after all, as Wally said, "life is where you find it, any place, every place, except at home in the rocking chair".

Take heart Todd, I looked for three years before I found my Caravel. Having said that. I would not have bought it had I known that I would spend the summer fixing it rather than camping with it.

It has been a rewarding and learning experience I will say. I have met some truely great folks here in the NW only having been to 2 rallies.
It will happen, have patience. you too will camp soon

Hang in there! It took us what seemed like forever, chased at least 6 before we found our Trade Wind. Now we have added 2 more Argosy's. You just never know when one will pop up! Good luck on your search.

Patience

I searched for quite a while until I found my trailer. Like many things in life, it isn't perfect, but perfect for me.

Here is the story of How It All Began if you are interested.

It took me almost a year to find my Airstream, it was worth the wait. The only advice I can give is, take your time, know what you want and be carefull. Pictures lie and sometimes people lie. Take a look at what happened to me.

The reason I have my Airstream today is because of this forum. To see the happy ending look here.

I feel your pain.....

I know EXACTLY where your at with this Todd (well maybe not, I'm not married). I have been looking for a ventage for a while now and like you say, its always the trailer vanished in a feeding frenzy of buyers or needs TCL means needs life support. Its not like I want THAT much, just a good frame and enough deck to forestall a skin off adventure for at least a few years..... I expect to put a new axel under the thing the first day; I expect to have to live with a lime green interior for a while.

Even as I write this I am anxiously waiting for word about a unit three states away (how did they know to start that thread ? BTW, that people who love airstreams are willing to do that for others says alot about airstreams and airstreamers in my view . Anyway, hang in there; I'm sure we will both find what we are after eventually. And thanks to all you forum members who have shared so much information and insight, I can't begin to say how much help that has been .
