Dan,

I'm in! If you'll keep the hype up, I'll handle production as I just got a great lease on an assembly plant space in Guadalajara with high skill, low cost workers which will offset the cost of all the new technology we can install.

We'd go in for $50k. Can you just imagine AS owned by "true believers?" There are some great engineers pulling Airstream trailers. And, lots of other talents too.

Are there any models of this kind of buyout? One made by enthusiasts and not sharks or "Bain-Counters" -- I wonder?

For all of you, this is a WHAT IF post......

1. I would halt production
2. I would reallign the relationship between engineering and production so that there is collaboration rather than the usual head butting.

Dan
Not a bad idea since someone told me that when it comes to the warranty folks dealing with the issues-- you know, the boots on the ground folks-- have little to no conversations with the folks buildin' 'em or in charge of buildin' 'em.

Hey, I'd love to put my chip in the big game to pull Airstream out of Thor, but, I firmly believe it'll never happen.

My guess is, folks would have to take over Thor, spin off everything but Airstream and then pick up where Wally left off, which leaves us basically to buy new trailers or not, since that too would be hard to do.

Triumph motorcycles was brought back to life by an enthusiast with deep pockets.
A local television station was bought out by employees and is doing quite well. I'm sure you'd find all kinds of examples that might be applicable. I'm an Architect and would love a crack at the interiors!

Hibby and Chuck, It's gotta be Airstream. Avion just does not have the recognition or history. It's very doubtful that Thor would part with the Airstream brand though. It gives the whole company some credibility.

When employees directly participate in the well-being of a company, magic happens.

Check out WestJet in Canada. Employee owned, highest customer satisfaction ratings around.

Thor is currrently valued at 1.44 billion... no idea what the value of theAirstream brand is worth. Who knows? Maybe they'd want to sell it and we could put together a partnership.

I agree that only AS has the valid legendary status. I wonder though about your second comment. Why would Thor turn down the right money? I would guess money is the only interest those guys have. I imagine they would be just as happy to take the money and buy a company that makes beer kegs, or fence posts.

OK, you lads are on going the right direction, but are off the track.

Airstream will give you the rights to the motorhome division for next to nothing, and you won't even have to "retrain" those workers on the line.

Start fresh with everything.

Dave

I'm in for production (Masters in Engineering), service (12 years in the RV service business), customer relations (that's what I do every day) and design (I've been in and around just about every type of RV made, from pop-ups to Prevosts ) and know what works, what doesn't and what the best stuff out there is!
