Smile A new addition

I don't want to jump the gun here, but it looks like I have another Airstream.
I pick it up the last week of December. It's a 1967 Overlander International.
I have already named it, Shell Shock. I will post a pic or two later tonight.
It is mostly a parts trailer, but may show up a the 2005 Forum ralley in Moraine View SP. As this one has a title!!!!

When the pictures come you will understand the name.

Well, with out giving too much away.

A good friend sent me a lead on a trailer that was damaged in a storm. I believe that a 36" white oak fell over and hit the current owners house. Well the poor trailer was between the base of the tree and the house. The house took the brunt of the tree, but the Airstream got crunched in the rear street side corner. I really do not want to give too much more away, till I go to pick up the trailer. My luck I will jinx the whole deal by busting at the seams with this thread. I just could not keep it in any longer.

When this all works out, it will save me MAJOR money rebuilding The Wreck.

Oops, sorry, Tedd. I was teasing and for sure wouldn't want to be the cause of messing up a good find. I missed that in your post. I thought you just were waiting for an optimum time to pick it up. Good luck and hope all goes well. The blue drape will be a stand-out at Moraine View. We'll all have to spend the winter planning how to dec our own exteriors to keep up with you

Thanks to some help from my friends here (You know who you are) I can gant Johns wish. Here is what is under the blue tarp. (Warrning not for the faint of heart)

From what can be seen in the photos, I think that it would be way more work to repair that damamge then to repair my frame. Though I am willing to entertain some ideas. Two feet is two feet of living space when it comes to 6 living it the trailer on a rainy day.

oewww - anything is possible......but........

We were posed a similar question - and the cost of the skin alone would probably be more than both trailers put together.

I'm sure some on this forum would say - Hey if you have the time...part out the Overlander to pay for the Ambassador. (of course feeding the hunger for long lost parts on many Overlanders out there).

We actually have an eye on a 61 Overlander - not saying too much right now cause we too beleive in black cats and ladders! - We also may have a newer "Akaaaa the "ShellshockedWreck2" (pictured were posted and removed due to the graphic nature!)We would pillage all the new systems and appliances to tastefully upgrade the 61 Overlander.

Keep us posted on your progress and if you do decide to part her out please PM us as we could be the source of your funding We will know in a week on both accounts on our potential Airstream Salvage yard to be.

Peter or Sharon,

Your close to what I was thinking. It is more of a time issue. I'm guessing that to rebuild the rear section (End cap, side sheet, window sheet and roof sheet) using parts from The Wreck would not only add about three more seams (potential leaks) but would eat up almost a year more in time. Not to mention the cost in rivits and tools needed. I can barrow most of the tools for a short time, but with the scale of Shell Shock it would take way too long to barrow. Not that the trailer may wind up scraped when I'm done. I have an idea or two, but the wife is not sure yet.

I have had a chance to see "CampCollector" Jonathan's handy work. He has gone through just what you are planning. His new Bambi was flattened and he fixed it. Looks real good. He would be a fine resource on the subject.
He also has a thread on the repair.
