Cool A/C Blows GFI in Home

Do I need a separate 30-amp hook-up in order to run the a/c in the Airstream while parked in my yard? I keep the unit plugged in to power from house, but GFI blows when I turn on a/c - after a few minutes. Getting prices from electrical contractor to install separate hook-up, but is it necessary? Unit is about 125' away from house.

Thanks for any assistance - BEFORE I pay the Electrical Contractor.

jen,

you can look here and decide if you need to hire an electrician.

http://www.pljohnson.com/electrical/...voltdrop.shtml

the calculator sez you will need #4 copper conductor for a run of 125 feet at 30 amps. 3% line loss.

read big bucks!

you do not want to scrimp on the wire because the life of your airconditioner depends on "good" voltage. i would not reccomend running your airconditioner on a sub standard circuit because you can burn the compressor out.

the gfi tripping is not good!

Thanks for the info - I will not run the a/c - just stay in the house! Until we are on the road again.

Thanks again - Jennifer
