'78 20ft argo's tranny

Does anyone know what type of transmission I am looking at?
It a 1978 20ft Argosy Motorhome. The transmission started slipping
and I will need a rebuilt. Before I shop around I would appreciate
information on the same.

Simple way to tell but if this is a 350 engine I would like to know what you find. If it is a 454 I have little doubt it will be a Turbo 475, the 350 wasn't rated for the torque and application.

GM trans of the days for larger vehicles were the turbo 350 and 400/475 (basically the same trans). The Turbo 350 pan is square with the right rear corner cut off. the Turbo 400 has 2 90 angles on the front but the rear is very irregular in shape, a couple of big curves. It also has an electric kickdown, there will be wires into trans that come from a switch high up on the accelerator linkage inside the motor home.
