71 Airstream in Martha Stewart Magazine

This may be old news but I didn't see a post on it......

In the July issue page 120 "A lazy Weekend in the country."

The article features a 1971 Airstream but I am not an expert and so I don't know what model this is. There are some nice photos of it though and the usual Martha style article about a couple and their Airstream entertaining with all sorts of great food and wine and fresh flowers, just like we all do right?

In Martha's "Letter from Martha" she writes;

"I've often dreamed of taking an Airstream Trailer, furnishing it simply and practically, and living in its organized and small spaces."

Hummmmm.

Enjoy, Julia

Looks like a Safari to me...COOL!

That's a "Gucci Campout" for sure!

Martha may soon get her wish to live in an organized and small space. It's called Federal Prison.

Maybe ...

they could put bars on the windows of that '71 Airstream and put her in it.

You guys are cracking me up!

I didn't recognize it as a Safari due to the double axels. But I just now looked closely at the barely readable plates on the side and you are right! It IS a Safari.

My friend has a 70 Safari and it is a single axle. I think in 71 Airstream must have gone to a double axle on the Safari. Does anyone know why? Was it determined that for a 22 Ft. trailer a double axle was required for safety or something?

Is there any links to these photos or are they only in a hard copy of the magazine?

I think it must have been an "option".

If you look the examples on this Vintage Archives website, you'll notice some Safaris with single and some with dual axles between '70 & '74...

I'm not a big Martha fan, heck, I'm not a Martha fan at all. All this talk about Martha going to prison, is BS! All she did was sell some stock to prevent a loss of around $46,000 or so. Anyone of us here would have done the same thing, I know I would have.

In other news, still no conviction in the Enron scandal, where billions were lost, and thousands of lives were ruined

It has been alleged that Martha used insider information to avoid that loss....which is the illegal part. not just the selling of stock for a profit.

but back to the airstreams.... ....

I was wondering about that axles/safari thing, myself. if that site is accurate, they didn't just "switch" to a double axle; they went back and forth. all I know is that mine is a 73, and it has 2 axles. I think they show a 74 w/ only 1 axle. ??? maybe Andy knows?
