'51 Flying Cloud

I have always wanted to own an Airstream trailer. I have done several frame off restorations on vehicles in the past, but I don't want to get financially over my head on this project, and it be a financial loss. I am not positive on the year yet, but the tag next to the door says 24d-0251. I have 300.00 into this project so far. Please give me some advise on where I should go with this project. I look forward to the comments..

I think its a 1959. But, it is a project and if your up to it....it will be nice. Plan on everything needing replacement and refreshing for planning purposes. Read....read....read the info available here.

You asked for suggestions; I suggest you sell it to me for $600 and make 100% profit.

For sure not a 51.

That funny **** right their. After a little research I am starting to agree with the year being a 1959.

62 - you are a riot! :-)

Why they don't still use that awesome Art Deco sweeping airstream badge is beyond me - love it.

I have no recommendation. (Bought new as this is way beyond me) but that's a beautiful trailer!

Hey Prochevelle, I got a 54 Cruiser a couple of months ago, not as good shape inside as yours but the shin is v good. I just north of Rosehill off Coe loop if you know that area. We should get together to discuss plans.

62 is just pulling your leg. He might go a few dollars higher

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!

i was going to say something to the extent of... double your $$ and it's not a loss!

you got an AMAZING deal. REALLY GOOD. sure you didnt mean $3000?

i agree on 59 - its after 57 due to endcap, wasnt 59 or was it 60 for the last year of those sexy wheel wells? door within a door, old style name plate... i'd wager its a 59.

nice find. this will not lose you $$, just many hours of your time.

It could be early, California 1960. California (sorry it is not an Ohio. Ohio trailers rule) model. Airstream always used surplus up...

Nice trailer. Late 50's early 60's. And I would give you $900 for it-tripling your money!!

It is going to be at my dads house here shortly. He lives in Pinehurst off of Coe rd. on Jimmy ln. I would love to share ideas.

Thanks for the help guys. This has been something I have wanted to do for a long time. I guess from what i've seen, the first thing is to dive into the metal that needs to be replaced, and check out the floors. If im putting the horse before the cart let me know. I would have brought it home today but the tongue wasnt locking down to my 2" ball very well. When I locked down the pin, and I have my receiver hitch in my hand I could yank it out of the tongue. I didnt see and adjustment in it.

I did pay $300.00 for it, and it came with dishes. lol

Prochevelle, let me know when it's gets the, I would like to see it. If you don't mind.

It sounds like the latch inside your coupler is not moving with the handle. Try some penetrant for a day or so to loosen it up.

BTW, don't mind Bwoodtx, he's pulling your leg even harder!

Aww c'mon Sid. Help me out here! Just tryin' to make a deal! You are scarin' 'em.

It IS a nice trailer, though and will be great once the wiring is done, the floors are done, the plumbing is done, the appliances are done, and the decorating are done. Not too much to do.

Anything to make a deal!

Seriously though it will be beautiful when finished. Don't get discouraged-we have all been where you are with vintage trailers. You have an excellent support group on the forums.
