Here's the heart of the matter:
The person making the request has been a member four months or less, and is making a request for a non-member!
I have been on a number of boards and lists, and seen them go through several scams perpetrated in just this manner.... short term member, sudden disaster..... please open your heart and pocket book and help.....
Having 'been there, done that' don't want to see it happen again!
If this tale is true, I am sorry for the sufferer.
But I really don't think this type of thing belong on this forum!
Well meant, simply out of place.

Excuse me....no it isnt the "heart" of the matter.

Located in Eugene, OR. Once I get her permission I'll post an ad with contact info. After which she is to be contacted...Im not involved other than trying to assist someone in need.

The problem will be the same. You're posting an ad for a person who is "making payments" on an Airstream she wants to "cash out" of, but admittedly is "in the process of purchasing."

In other words, you don't own the Airstream, but you're placing an ad for it.

By her own words, she doesn't yet own it, but she wants to sell it.

The guy who really owns it hasn't been heard from yet.

And you wonder why people find this suspicious?

If she really wants to sell, the ad will need to clarify this murky situation. It's not about dental work, it's about having a clear title. Who owns this Airstream? Who has the right to sell it?

Greg,

The proof will be in the pudding. You didn't disclose you are a broker. Why don't you post your web site on this forum for all to see because it definitely is relevant to the topic at hand.

We here in this community have made a call for all to post our home web sites. You should list yours. You could post it under 2 catagories - Dealership sites and Restoration sites. I have checked it out and it looks pretty professional. You should be proud of it.

As a vendor you should also be aware of the rules on this forum with respect to vendors. I know that the vendors on this list go to great lengths to respect the rules and not sell on the forum. As a vendor - your activity leaves even more in question.

As for placing a big size 12 boot-print someplace, try giving a leg up on the truth. As shakespere said "Methinks thou dost protest too much".

I had the idea that there may possibly be someone here in the forums that may have some ideas on how to help. A member who is a dentist? Donation? Dont know...but we are a community and this is one of our own.
=============================

I beg to differ with you on 'heart of the matter'.
That above is from your first post on this matter. You are CLEARLY asking for help for a non member.
The expressed skepticism of several of us are based on several things:
third party request
from a short term member
who happens to act as an agent to sell Airstreams for others
And lastly.... personal experience in the past with similar scams.

Now, I am not saying YOU are running a scam. I AM saying this forum is NOT the place to ask for donations for this person!
I'm sure this person contacted you with the story. But since you are in business, take extra care YOU are not scammed. Do business with your head, not your emotions!
Bluntly, I am even a little uncomfortable with you putting up a third party ad based on what you have told us. Have you personally inspected this unit? You say you will post the ad, then step back, her contact info will stand on its own. Just doesn't strike me as kosher since the forum classifieds are for Forum Members!

Why do you think Canada has such an enormous prescription drug business?
Interesting you have so much information on the cost of the dental surgery but little information on the trailer. I just wondering...

This thread got me to thinking....What is ok to post? What is not? Is it stated anywhere?

For anyone interested refer to http://www.airforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=14605 for a little Forum Ettiquette lesson.

I'm still bothered that you (Chikagurl) still have not told us the relationship between you and this woman. Did she contact you to sell her trailer on Ebay? Or is this a long time Airstreamer friend? And according to your post on Yukionna's thread about bad Ebay experiences, you stated that you were an experienced Airstream renovator and Ebay seller. It makes me wonder why you even posted this thread, when it seems you have all the tools to help this woman on your own.

I wasnt asked to do this nor do I have anything to gain personally.
It was completely my idea.
If anything seemed vague or that information was "withheld" I am
sorry that was not the intention.
I'll put a link here in this thread for easy access once its posted and
anyone can make their own contact if desired.

BEFORE this is even brought up...I have already personally stepped up to the plate.
It is very odd that an eBay power seller who has successfully sold sold a high number of Airstreams on eBay would ask members of these forums for assistance in selling an AS for a total stranger.
I would think the prudent thing for the power seller to do would be to list the trailer on eBay for this needy person.
Listing it here for free rather than on eBay where the likelihood of a sale would be dramatically increased leads me to wonder if this power seller is reluctant to pony up the fee for the eBay ad.
chikagurl, if you are genuinely "stepping up to the plate" for this person, why would you not try to sell her trailer for her in the same fashion that you routinely sell your others, rather than solicit charity here?
It seems likely that this person contacted you because you have a good track record on eBay and you know how to sell Airstream trailers.

I think we are all sympathetic to folks having hard time. Problem is that it is very easy to pretend to be one. Especially online. Can you give us something to hang our hats on - such as the name of the family member who is an "assistant attorney general in Reno" for verification?

Pat

People, please keep in mind our first rule of the forum, which is to be considerate to others. I admire a healthy skepticism, especially where charity is concerned, but no personal attacks. Lets stick to the facts.

No more serious posts for you. You were supposed to be working on the light stuff -- the having fun stuff. The stuff that wouldn't give you a headache stuff. (think Marlon Brando) For this, I'm going to have to pull all the vowels off of your keyboard - capisci?

Seriously though... Rog makes a good point. You mention donation but you're going to list this trailer HERE at our peril instead of doing the 'D' word yourself and listing it for her. What's up with that? Do you see the same tangled mess that's obvious to the rest of us?

Serious off...

Sit back, put the feet up, sliiiiiiiiiiiiide that keyboard aside and take a break -- you've done enough damage for one day. Heard any good jokes? We're here for you baby, just gotta follow the lead and chill..

Your friend,

who loves ya baby?

Andy,
Why hasn't it been shut down before now?
I know they have the ability to do so.
