This is for a 1948 Airstream Liner. Picture of SN plate is attached.
Model#- 4811 Serial#- 1120
Could this Airstream have been started at the airport in California but finished at the new North Main location? Plate states the North Main location. But the SN itself could designate the airport possibly?
Any thoughts? Also what does the 4811 model designate? Year and the month of January?
Sure! Don't mind the duct tape. It has been removed and was only applied for the adventure down the FL Turnpike. MrRivet towed her home and I played the chase vehicle picking up any flying parts. Nothing fell off ... guess the duct tape worked.
Also there is an Apollo 17 sticker on her rear window along with a Pizza Hut sticker ... huh!?
Year 1948, built in November(11), No. 20, I guess from similar plates...
The plate appears to have moved down, the ones I have seen are butt tight below the vertical panel above and I think there is evidence of this from the lighter alu. above?
What a gorgeous find--congratulations! The liners always make me think of the submarine in "20,000 Leagues under the Sea" (is that the correct name??).

I have found other references of a serial number #1123 being possibly the first built at the new factory in California in February of 1948.
If so would it mean that mine would have been built at the airport in November of 1947 as a 1948 model. But it has the new factory address plate. Hmmmm! Not that it matters but it does bring up interesting conversation here on the forums on part of the history of Airstreams.
And you never know they could in fact come close to being together again. Or at least some pieces parts. I’m currently working on sending a few parts of our Liner, that we have decided not to use, to the UK. This couple own a Trail Wind. They holiday in France.

Well, mine is in Bordeaux, France. So the possibility, that they'll meet (again ? - they probably saw each other during construction in november 1948) is small.
Too bad you did not decide to use. Did you finish the restoration ? Don't see it in you 70 year journey.
May be the British couple will holiday near Bordeaux

When I got it, it was completely empty. New ground and restoration not as original, as you can see.
Great seeing all of this information. I just dragged #1437 home. Body is straight, floors rock solid, underbelly pan near flawless. On the inside it's just the near mint zolatone walls, stainless galley, and two overhead original cabinets. I am a contractor and will be taking it from there. MsRivet your restoration efforts are mind blowing and I'd love to see your coach.

Spectacular! Love it. Your Liner is very unique. Our restoration is far from being finished. We are current on the thread for status. Just got marine plywood from Tampa for decking. #1120 getting closer to its shell off transition.

Awesome and thanks!!! Congrats on saving #1437. We are just over an hour from you. We must definitely meet up. MrRivet just went to Tampa Thursday to purchase marine plywood. $30 per sheet cheaper than Orlando, so worth the trip for 6 sheets. Can’t wait to see your progress!
