$162.50 for a brochure

All I can say is WOW!!!!

I was watching this ebay auction in hopes of getting a vintage '64 catalog/brochure to go along with my Safari. I had envisioned paying $50-$60 for it, but boy was I shocked when I watched the price SOAR over $100. The real kicker though, the final sale price, $162.50. I'd rather put that kind of money towards the gas to take me Streamin'. If you have vintage literature, I guess there's a strong market out there!!!

I'll see yours and raise you. Be thankful you didn't own a real old one. The VAC has a copy of this same catalog in its library. I guess there's nothing like having the real thing though?

I just sold a 1959 Airstream that had all of the original paperwork including a 1959 Airstream owners' manual.
It also has several invoices for work done at the Airstream factory in Jackson Center in the early 1960's.

The labor rate charged was $6.00 per hour

This was the first thing on Ebay that i was interested enough in to make me sign up. I threw in the towel at $20. I'm not even sure I want to finish all of the registration requirements now that I've seen where that auction ended.

The price of the collectables is appalling! I've been collecting "paper" for nearly 15 years and I believe the the prices to be 50% or more than their reasonable value.
Some of the other items I've been looking at are also overinflated. $226 for a pair of no name wedding cake taillights, $80 for an interior light, "original" stabilizer jacks for $87.
The cause? diy TV shows touting the best way to muck up a trailer and the hype of "Quit your job when you make it rich buying and selling on eBay". Maybe, I don't know, just my guess.
Remember the thread last year about the guy cutting up vintage Airstreams and putting them up for auction? The same thing was happening to old atlases and prints at libraries. Cut out, matted and sold in antique stores for $30 a pop.

Ok, my soapbox is getting wobbely. Just my two cents worth.
