related question

WOW...15,000...My question? What percentage of Airstream owners are forum members?...or in other words, just how many Airstreams are there still on the road? Who knows? Anybody?

I've heard...

"60% of all Airstreams made ever made are still on the road today"

But I don't think anybody really knows 60% of what?

It seems like it was just last year that we hit 10,000. As a matter of fact, IIR it was 12/04/05.

Airstream numbers

Rog0525,

Thanks for the link, some good data. After reading most of the older threads, it looks like a reasonable estimate of total Airstream production is around 125,000 units. If we use the factories estimate of 60% still on the road we get a number around 75,000. (I'll bet that still on the road includes the Airstreams sitting in a garage or driveway) So if my basic math skills are correct, the forum's membership represents 20% of the current Airstream owners, with the understanding that this percentage assumes one Airstream per owner.

I am impressed, 20%, that is a very strong representation of owners. At the rate things are going, maybe THIS FORUM will be the "CLUB".

It is not - but there are many who are working both in front and behind the scenes to do that. It is interesting to note that there are plenty of people who are interested in Airstreaming as evidenced by these forums but that they are not interested in clubbing it WBCCI style.

15K names on the “Member List.” An impressive growth curve!
How many are active participants and how many are viewers that only read the postings. Looking at the Membership listing I see a lot of members who have never submitted a posting. It would be neat to see a bar chart illustrating the numbers for each Rivet Level vs the total population.

I would really be interested in seeing this too. What is nice about this forum as compared to others I participate in that there are active participants. I will post a question on another forum and wait sometimes several weeks before it is answered or gets a response.

Here is a link to the page with the top posters on the forums. It drops off quickly after the first page, as far as posts go.

yep it's pretty cool, already 21+ new members since janet's 15k post...
did the math last month; around 30 per day and increasing since 12/05.

i've looked at the member pages some on this issue......
approx 1/2 of the membership has 0-zero posts....
another 20+% 5 posts or less...

so lots of folks are registered and perhaps reading....

about 4200+ folks log on each day to read/post....
and this number is growing too

it used to be looking at the 'who's on line' tab
showed all the guests and what threads they were reading,
along with the member info...
BRING BACK this feature!

cheers

Not only are we up to 15,000 members but have had over 1,000 items posted to the classifieds, over 10,500 photos posted to the photo gallery (must be the biggest collection of Airstream photos around) and over 100 campground reviews! Together we have created an extremely special place!

I also want to point out that not all registered users have verified their email and are still waiting to be confirmed. So at some point I will purge some of those out and we will drop down again (I will probably do that towards the end of the year).

The long term goal (in my mind) is not just to be big but to keep up the quality of our data by having a clean database of members. What, what, when, where and why?

We are just about 4.5 years old, so it will be cool to see where we are for our 10th birthday!

I'll see what advances they have made with the software in that area. That was one of the most processor intensive queries on the forums and was slowing down the server, so for now it is going to have to stay off until I can learn more or get us more muscle....

Bein' as some of us Airstreamers are into member numbers, I was just wondering if there's any way we can tell what member number we were when we logged on for the first time. As we grow, I keep trying to remember how many were here when I became a forum member. Seems like it was under a 1000, certainly not more than 2000, but I don't remember. Any way to find out?
