Wheel well body repairs

I recently acquired a 1962 Bambi that needs some body work at the curbside wheel well. Apparently a tire change resulted in torn aluminum at roughly 1 and 11 o'clock for a length of approximately 4" each place. I understand this is not uncommon. Has anyone ever seen a repair incorporating a bolt-on "fender skirt" piece? While not original, these combined with larger underlying wheel cutouts, could be removed when replacing tires and hopefully prevent future problems.

Interesting idea

Some of those fender skirts like the old teardrop trailers had on them might be attractive looking.

The guy from vintageairstream.com had to repair his fender skirt. Here's a link to that page:

How about using the current single wheel well moldings.

A side benefit is that it makes it much easier to change a tire.
