Now that the floor replacement is done, its time to move on to the wheel wells. Pulled the outer plastic wheel well cover to inspect the black inter wheel well. I found four cracks in the black wheel well, one in each lower corner, and two on the topside of cover. I have decided to use that Rubber roof patching tape.
Cleaned wheel wells with TSP….let dry and applied Tape over the cracks. Hope it works! What other produces are out there in Airstream land to patch cracks like this, (see Photos).
I plan to patch cracks in outer wheel well tomorrow, repack the insulation between the wells and move on the road side wheel wells. The twin beds will be replaced with a diner booth on the curb side and a ten foot long kitchen countertop on the roadside. So I will frame with 3/4 “ over the wheel wells….. Never ending
Pulled the interior wheel well today.... many cracks in the black exterior wheel well. Looks like I will need to jack and pull wheels off to patch. Also cut out a 7" x 25" section of plywood along the wall in front of the wheel well. Black and rotten section of plywood came out pretty fast with jig saw. Also Speedy got a Bee sting today, $125.00 Vet bill. "FUN, FUN, FUN, till your daddy takes"......
The wheel well on the road side is in such poor condition that I decided to take one of the outer covers to OES Fabrication INC, and have Mike Whaley fabricate two new wheel wells out of Aluminum sheet metal. They will cost $230 bucks for both. I will post photos tomorrow, if he has them done.
Picked up new wheel wells today, they are made of sheet metal Aluminum…. I want to install tomorrow, but I can’t because I have to repair/seal leaky Roof on the Old Girl.
Hello, I have new flooring laid that went around the outside of the flange of the plastic wheel wells (perhaps should have been laid over?) and I know need to frame the wheel wheel with (3/4"?) ply because the bunk beds do not run the length of the wheel wheel so a treatment is needed for the 'sticking out' part.
1. Should my plywood frame extend over past the flanges for fear of damage/cracking
2. Should I insulate between the plastic/plywood
3. On the opposite, I will have countertop - I assume the 'best practice' is to also frame the wheel well on that side?
