winegard antenna

hello,

i have a winegard antenna on my roof. when i put the antenna down the wings rest in a cradle that is probably 12 inches long and 4 inches wide. the U shaped cradle was attached to the roof with a silicone adhesive. well the adhesive has dried and the U shaped cradle has come off. any thoughts on how to reattach the cradle so that the wings do not ride on the roof? what type of adhesive should i use?

thanks for your help.

I would recommend a polyurethane sealant/adhesive like 3M Fast Cure 4200. You can see it at ( West Marine: Fast Cure 4200 Polyurethane Adhesive/Sealant Product Display ).

I have the same problem and my dealer gave me a tube of Vulkem and said to stick it back on with that. I haven't done it yet. I thought Vulkem was for sealing rather than adhesive.

Is using the Vulkem a good idea?

Another option to consider would be 3M's double-sided industrial tape. It's hold is often good enough for solar panels. Just a thought...

Good luck with your repairs.

hello,

i used the 3M fast cure 4200 and went on a 2300 mile trip. i live in socal and am now sitting in flint, michigan and am happy to say that the U cradle has held fast. it has not moved and should i need ever to do the repair again then i would use the same product. if you don't have a west marine near you i would think home depot or a hard ware store might have the product.

i might add that while here in michigan we had almost 5 inches of rain over a 2 and a half day period and the 3M has done the job.

not sure how the double sided tape would work but think the bouncing down the freeway might shake it loose.
