Up on the roof and noticed cracking sealant

The thick sealant around the vents in cracking. Probably been on the trailer since 2003. It's still flexible. What is this stuff? Do I need to scrape it all off before applying new?

Someone will answer your questions about the actual repair material and procedure but I will add that the service department at Colonial said ti inspect it annually and re bed everything every two or three years.....

On a warm day you can often peel it off with a bit of help from a plastic putty knife. You can just clean it and apply new seal over the old, but eventually you are going to have a hard time figuring out what is going on underneath.

I scraped mine down to at least 'fresh' and soft seal, then used a self-leveling product that finished up a lot nicer than the goop in a can.

Those round plastic vent covers only cost $2 or so each. Scrape off as much as you need to access the screws under the goo, remove and replace the covers, clean the rest of the goo off while they're off, and put down fresh self leveling lap sealant over the bases.

"Self leveling lap sealant", any recommendations by trade/product name?

Thanks in advance.

We use a product called Dicor. Most other self-leveling lap sealant is similar if you can't find that brand. This is one of those cases of it not mattering a whole lot. It isn't rocket surgery.
