Roof rack mounts in 1972 Safari?

My wife just bought a 1972 23' Safari and we're trying to figure out a few things. First on the list: there are three aluminum castings on the roof--two aft on either side of the roof, and a third on the side opposite the refrigerator vent. These three have socket holes in the tops, about an inch in diameter or a bit larger. They'd make a rectangle with the fridge vent as the fourth corner, and I assumed they were for a roof rack of some type but when I got on a ladder to check the vent, there's no corresponding socket there. And the vent seems too flimsy to support any weight at all, let alone a roof rack. Any ideas?

Hi Dave - Welcome to theforums!!!

Got a pic? I don't have anything similar on my '72 Sovereign based on your description. As far as I know, roof racks have never been an option on Airstream trailers, nor would I want to place a bunch of weight on the roof.

Are you sure these aren't plumbing stack vents?

That's what I've got!

Yes, it looks like we have vents, not roof rack mounts. Ah. well... at least our plumbing is vented. Thanks for all the help--amazing how much information is in these forums and how much you folks seem to know.

Yup - my 72 Sovereign only has 2 vents as well. I wonder if a PO on Dave's trailer added a gray water tank and corresponding vent?

I'm guessing that the bathroom sink/tub/shower have a vent, the black tank has a vent and the kitchen sink has a vent for 3 vents total.
