Replacement Stove Vent Cover - Anyone have one???

Hey guys! I just got back from an awesome meetup in Socal at Kernville. Had a great time and met some great people but I had a mishap. When I tried to cook my morning bacon, I open up the vent and turned on the fan for the stove. When I did this the wire that props open the vent cover broke away for the cover so I went outside and propped it open by hand. On the way back I simply closed the vent cover but it was no longer secured by the original wire. Guess what happened next... We stopped for lunch halfway home and I looked up to see a missing vent cover. LOL. Oh well, not the end of the world but I would like to find a replacement (preferably from an Argosy)... If anyone hears or sees anything, please let me know...

It was about 8" x 11" in size and has a small semi circle lip that attaches to the rail above the vent.

Thanks for any help!

Chris

Chris,

My parts-donor trailer still has this cover, and I don't believe I need it for my project trailer. However, I probably wouldn't have an opportunity to put my hands on the part for weeks, the parts trailer is about 150 miles from the house. Hopefully someone can get you one faster.

Thanks! I will take it. I really want to keep an original. I saw some options on VTS in a worst case scenario, but I would rather have yours please. Take your time, I will duck tape it...

Hey man, wanted to check back and see if you had a chance to check out this vent cover yet?

I haven't been down there yet. Even if he's not yet ready to start on il Progetto by then, I'll see the guy who has the parts trailer at his shop in early Dec for a unit rally. I'll see if he can pop it off and bring it with him then if I haven't had a chance to do it myself.

I have a vent like that on my 81 Excella II and I took it off because it was poorly designed and leaked. I just make a patch for mine and sealed it off. Eventually I will put the vent back on but it will be a scoop type vent that won't leak around that flap door. There is no way to make that flap door not leak while towing in the rain.

Perry you are very right but I like the idea of keeping the exterior original. I had considered replacing it with this vent from VTS: Airstream Stove Vent Cover

Well original is not always best when it does not work. Blocking off that vent was the last leak that I fixed. I will probably end up using a scoop type vent with a flap door under that. I don't want anything plastic. I also have an awning and it takes a special low profile vent so the awning clears. Stopping leaks was my first priority and keeping it original was second to that. The water was causing damage to my original stove and the furnace below that, not to mention the floor. Water was the greater of evils for me. You have to make your own decision.

Till you get it sorted out you can make a patch by using the fan housing as a template. You can use the same screws and caulk of your choice to seal it to the skin.
