Numbers on Front of Trailer

I have seen them on many of the older trailers but don't know what they mean. The numbers on the top front, should I try and keep these when I polish it or what? Thanks

Hi from AZ. . . Welcome to our group !. . . The numbers are the WBCCI assigned numbers of a previous owner. If readable, you could contact the club to see if that number is available to you (if you're interested in BEING a member. ) They will send you new red numbers when you join to place on the trailers front & back. Hope this helps, regards, Craig

Those big red numbers are the owner's WBCCI membership number, and have nothing to do with the trailer itself. These numbers are on both the front and back end caps of the trailer.

The red stars above the numbers each represent five years of club membership.

Even though we have kept the same WBCCI number since it was issued to my parents in 1969 when the trailer was new I removed the numbers this fall. I am going to see how they look come spring. I've tried several compounds and techniques but the contrast between where the number was and the rest of the panels is still visible. I am avoiding using a high speed buffer to actually polish the area because then it will look even more obvious than before. I will decide in the spring what to do in terms of replacing the numbers with new ones or making a sign which we would use to display during AS events and rallies. I will say that as a couple of months have passed by the area where the numbers were seems to be fading out a bit so perhaps some sun and some time will help.

Just so you know, you can order a new set of numbers from International...

We mounted ours on plexi-glass and hang them from the front window when we are in a situation where they are required...(so far, only at Regional and International events...

To me the big red numbers is just part of owning an Airstream. They just belong.

I wholeheartedly agree. An Airstream without the big red numbers look like a knock-off.

So if the red numbers are the WBCCI membership number, what are the blue numbers for?

Exactly. The blue numbers (14872) on Old Lucy that you see in my avatar is my Airforums membership number. I have not put any blue numbers on New Lucy yet.

I think the numbers look tacky. I would much rather put them on a plack and show them in a window when I need to. When you are going down a highway I really don't want every AS owner to know who I am or some geek who can easily get the info too easily from the WBCCI website.

Unless he/she is a wbcci member they can not gain access to the digital WBCCI directory that contains your name and address. If you chose to not have your name in the digital directory then no one can gain access to your name in the digital directory. You can not chose to not be listed in the hard copy directory so anyone with a hard copy can look you up.

That is each member's choice, to be listed in the club directory. We choose to display the big red numbers and be listed in the directory.

I know you told me this in a private message or email, but I am having trouble visualizing the plexi-glass hanging in the window. The WBCCI is pretty clear about how THEY want them, but there is a real concern that these things won't go away if membership is no longer desired or continued.

Nobody gave you trouble at Regional or International Rallys? By the way, my packet arrived today. I am number 4060.

Folks mount their numbers on plexi (or other means) in different ways. We have ours on a sheet of plexi in a sort of frame affair that we then hang from the window guard on the front of the trailer. (We didn't want to subject the finish to them, as they do leave a "ghost" if removed.) We have another set for the back that hangs off our rear awning. International does not care how they are displayed at events as long as they are displayed. The reason they want you to display your number is because that's how they ID you and keep track of you when there is a sea of aluminum.... When we see you at a rally next remind me to bring our numbers with us to show you how we've dealt with it...

Go to this link: Airstream Forums - Members List and look up your forums name.

Numbers are assigned as you join the Airforums.
